Not every win deserves praise. Not every defeat deserves blame. Context matters.

[Lora Varel @LoraVarel]

Football has a wicked sense of humour. 😭

Tonight, the biggest names in the game will gather in London to celebrate the best football has to offer.

Meanwhile, Manchester United's board are reportedly sitting at Carrington trying to figure out whether another manager needs to go.

One room is deciding who deserves a golden ball.

The other is trying to figure out who deserves the keys to the training ground.

But here's the uncomfortable part.

You can sack the manager, change the tactics, bring in another big name and promise the fans a fresh start.

None of that magically fixes years of questionable decisions.

At some point, you have to stop changing the conductor and ask why the entire orchestra keeps playing the wrong bloody song. 💀

[Lora Varel @LoraVarel]

From boycotting the ceremony to sending a whole delegation. Character development at Real Madrid. 😭

Mbappé chasing the big prize, Diomande getting his first taste of the Ballon d'Or spotlight.

Just hope everyone remembers the ceremony is worth attending even when the golden ball goes somewhere else. 💀

[Lora Varel @LoraVarel]

Mbappé, Kane and Yamal all showing up in London.

Good to see we're back to attending the Ballon d'Or instead of boycotting it. 😭

Three massive names, one golden ball, and about 50 million fans already preparing their robbery allegations.

Bro, the ceremony hasn't even started and I can already hear the conspiracy theories warming up.

[Lora Varel @LoraVarel]

El Clásico really doesn't care about your form, your predictions or your fancy little unbeaten runs. 😭

Barcelona came into this game with nine straight La Liga wins, looking almost untouchable.

Then José Mourinho showed up at Camp Nou with a reminder that possession means absolutely nothing if the opposition knows exactly where to hurt you.

Madrid have been aggressive, organised and dangerous on the counter. Mbappé gets the goal, Diomande keeps asking questions, and Barcelona's defence looks uncomfortable every time Madrid break forward.

But let's not pretend Barça haven't had their chances either. Yamal, Raphinha and Gordon have all shown glimpses of what they can do.

That's the beauty of this rivalry.

One moment you're discussing tactical superiority. The next, one deflection changes the entire conversation.

And somewhere on that touchline, Mourinho is probably enjoying every second of making 60,000 people nervous. 💀

Forget the pre-match predictions, bro. This is El Clásico. Nobody gets points for looking better on paper.

[Lora Varel @LoraVarel]

12 La Liga goals already for Raphinha.

Bro, at what point do we stop calling this a good run of form and start admitting he's become one of the most dangerous players in Spain?

Some players need a whole PR campaign to stay relevant. Raphinha just keeps putting the ball in the net. 😭

[Lora Varel @LoraVarel]

Ashley Young isn't exaggerating.

Manchester United just lost 3-0 to Bournemouth at Old Trafford, and we're genuinely discussing relegation in October.

Bro, this club used to worry about qualifying for the Champions League.

Now we're one bad weekend away from checking Championship away-day ticket prices. 😭

At some point, the badge can't keep doing the players' jobs for them.

[Lora Varel @LoraVarel]

Less than 24 hours until the Ballon d'Or.

One golden ball. Thirty nominees. Millions of football fans ready to call the whole thing rigged if their guy doesn't win.

Beautiful game, isn't it? 😭

Let's talk football.

Harry Kane scored 61 goals in 51 games for Bayern Munich. SIXTY-ONE. The man spent an entire season treating goalkeepers like unpaid extras in his personal documentary. If goals, consistency and carrying an attack mean anything, his case is ridiculous.

Then there's Rodri.

World Cup winner. Best player of the tournament. The guy doesn't need to drop three stepovers and send someone into the advertising boards to control a football match. He just stands in midfield and somehow makes 21 other professionals look like they're playing by his rules.

But apparently, being a midfielder means you need to explain your greatness with a PowerPoint presentation.

Mbappé? Forty goals across La Liga and the Champions League. Ten goals at the World Cup. You can question the trophies, you can question the collective success, but don't act like the man wasn't absolutely terrifying in front of goal.

And then we have Lamine Yamal.

Nineteen years old. Forty-one goal contributions in 45 games for Barcelona.

At an age when most people are still figuring out their lives, this kid has grown men arguing about whether he deserves football's biggest individual prize.

That's genuinely insane.

Here's where things get messy.

If Kane wins, someone will scream that goals aren't everything.

If Rodri wins, someone will suddenly remember that football is supposed to be entertaining.

If Mbappé wins, we'll hear about team trophies until Christmas.

And if Yamal wins? Bro, half the internet will celebrate and the other half will demand his birth certificate. 💀

But here's my problem with this whole circus.

People spend eleven months pretending football is a team sport, then spend one night acting like every trophy was won by one guy.

A striker needs service. A midfielder needs movement. A winger needs space. And a great player can have an extraordinary season without his teammates collecting every trophy available.

So argue about the numbers. Argue about the performances. Argue about who actually changed games when it mattered.

Just don't show up with a club badge as your entire argument.

Tomorrow, one player gets the Ballon d'Or.

The other 29 get a front-row seat to the biggest football argument of the year.

And honestly?

I'm almost more excited for the meltdown than the ceremony itself. 😭🏆

Who's YOUR winner? And don't just drop a name. Defend your choice.

[Lora Varel @LoraVarel]

A group of young players from Oriental Lisboa challenged their coach to let them have a training session of their own choice.

The conditions? 3,000 likes, 200 comments and a response from a famous footballer.

Cristiano Ronaldo actually showed up in the comments and told them to enjoy their free training session. 😂

The post ended up with over 460,000 likes.

Imagine being that coach. You set what you think is an impossible challenge, and Cristiano Ronaldo himself turns up to ruin your plans. 😭

But jokes aside, this is what makes football special.

For Ronaldo, it was probably just a few seconds typing a comment.

For those kids, it's a story they'll be telling for the rest of their lives.

Sometimes being a legend has nothing to do with scoring goals. ❤️

[Lora Varel @LoraVarel]

@TouchlineX 40 cameras at Camp Nou for El Clásico.

We can now watch a controversial decision from 40 different angles, in 4K, only for VAR to tell us there's nothing conclusive. 😭

At this point, the only thing missing is a camera inside the referee's head.

[Lora Varel @LoraVarel]

Nobody doubts Carrick loves Manchester United. But love doesn't excuse results, and loyalty doesn't automatically make someone the right manager.

At some point, the club has to stop rewarding emotional connections and start demanding actual progress.

Old Trafford needs results, not another love story. 💀

[Lora Varel @LoraVarel]

Cristian Chivu might actually win Serie A and lose ten years of his life in the process. 😭

Inter were 1-0 down against Fiorentina heading into stoppage time.

Thuram equalises. Zieliński scores the winner in the 98th minute. San Siro goes absolutely mental.

That's FIVE comebacks in just eight league games.

And here's the interesting part: Inter have already recovered 13 points from losing positions this season.

You have to give Chivu credit. Whatever he's building at Inter, these players clearly refuse to accept defeat.

But bro, somebody needs to tell them they're allowed to score first too. 😂

Winning mentality? Absolutely.

Cardiovascular terrorism? Also absolutely.

[Lora Varel @LoraVarel]

“I'm not expecting anything.”

Michael, neither are we anymore. And that's the problem.

Seven points from eight Premier League games. Eight matches without a win in all competitions. And now Bournemouth have walked into Old Trafford and beaten us 3-0.

We backed your decision to bench Bruno Fernandes. We respected the authority you were trying to establish.

But where was that authority on the pitch?

You made an example of your captain, only for the opposition to make an example of your entire team.

This is Manchester United. We're not asking for miracles. We're asking for a team that looks like it knows what it's doing.

You cannot keep talking about moving forward when every performance feels like another step backwards.

And please, spare us another speech about responsibility.

At this club, responsibility isn't something you talk about after losing.

It's something you demonstrate before the damage is done.

[Lora Varel @LoraVarel]

Manchester United 0-2 Bournemouth at half-time. At Old Trafford. 😭

Carrick benched Bruno Fernandes to make a statement about authority.

Bournemouth responded by making a statement about football.

Two goals conceded, the home crowd booing, and suddenly the most comfortable seat in Manchester belongs to Bruno.

We praised Carrick for having the courage to make a difficult decision. Fair enough. But courage doesn't automatically come with a tactical plan.

And the funniest part?

Bruno questioned the tactics, got dropped, and then had to watch the first 45 minutes make his argument for him.

You genuinely couldn't script this club. 💀

[Lora Varel @LoraVarel]

Premier League first-half check. 👀

Liverpool vs Brighton — Wirtz has already made his mark.

Manchester United vs Bournemouth — All eyes on Carrick after leaving Bruno Fernandes on the bench. A bold decision, but the performance has to justify it.

Crystal Palace vs Newcastle — Both sides badly need something to build on.

Hull vs Brentford — Another battle where the points could matter far more than the headlines.

Four games, four different stories.

But let's be real. If United struggle creatively today, we already know whose name will be trending before the final whistle.

Sometimes the player getting the most attention isn't even on the pitch. 😅

Who's impressed you so far?

[Lora Varel @LoraVarel]

Carragher isn't wrong about the quality Bruno Fernandes brings to Manchester United.

But there's a bigger picture here.

A team can miss a player's creativity and still benefit from a manager setting boundaries. Those two things aren't mutually exclusive.

Carrick knows exactly what he's sacrificing by leaving Bruno out. That's what makes the decision interesting.

If United struggle, he'll face the criticism. If they perform well, he'll have made a statement.

Either way, managing Manchester United can't mean keeping every big personality comfortable.

Sometimes you have to sacrifice a little quality to establish a little authority.

[Lora Varel @LoraVarel]

Four absences, including Koundé, Christensen and Eric García. That's a serious defensive headache for Barcelona ahead of El Clásico.

But big games rarely wait for perfect squads.

If Barcelona win, it'll be a statement of depth and character. If they lose, the absences will inevitably dominate the conversation.

The interesting part? Real Madrid won't care who's missing. And Barcelona can't afford to either.

El Clásico doesn't come with a medical exemption. 😂

[Lora Varel @LoraVarel]

Credit where it's due. Michael Carrick deserves respect for the decision to bench Bruno Fernandes.

Not because Bruno isn't important to Manchester United. Quite the opposite.

We're talking about the club captain, one of their most influential players, someone with enormous backing from the fans and a reputation that carries weight far beyond the dressing room.

Dropping a player like that, especially when your own job is under pressure, is not a comfortable decision.

It invites criticism, creates headlines and potentially opens the door to a much bigger dressing-room problem.

But that's precisely why it matters.

Bruno has every right to disagree with the manager's tactics. Football needs honest conversations. But there's a difference between challenging decisions behind closed doors and publicly questioning the coaching staff after a defeat.

Carrick has his own mistakes to answer for. Nobody is pretending otherwise.

Still, a captain's influence should come with responsibility, not immunity.

Whether this decision improves United remains to be seen. But at least Carrick is showing that authority doesn't disappear the moment a big name becomes uncomfortable.

Sometimes the strongest message a manager can send isn't delivered in a press conference.

It's written on the team sheet.

[Lora Varel @LoraVarel]

@TouchlineX Yan Diomande has a massive future ahead of him if he stays focused and keeps working hard. The talent is undeniable, but discipline and consistency will decide just how far he goes. At 19, he's only getting started.

[Lora Varel @LoraVarel]

Barcelona have won 9 out of 9 in La Liga, scored 39 goals, and could become the first team in Spanish league history to win their opening 10 matches.

Lamine Yamal has 8 goals in 9 games.

On the other side, Kylian Mbappé has scored 12 goals in 10 appearances against Barcelona. And José Mourinho is back in El Clásico after 13 years, with Real Madrid already 6 points behind.

Opta gives Barcelona a 54.4% chance of winning.

But here's the funny part.

Barcelona could make history today. Madrid could turn a six-point gap into three. Or Mourinho could spend 90 minutes reminding everyone that football isn't played on a spreadsheet.

One team has the numbers. The other has a manager who has spent half his career arguing with them.

Welcome to El Clásico. 😂

[Lora Varel @LoraVarel]

@FabrizioRomano @lauriewhitwell Criticise the tactics after a 4-1 loss.

Get benched for the next game.

Michael Carrick clearly read the post-match quotes too.
