@King_Big_Balls@nyaraVT I will say, I agree with you, I don't think trans women should be in women's sports, they do have unfair advantages. But why remove protections for trans people not in sports? The one's just trying to live their lives, gay people, etc. Can you see my concern?
@King_Big_Balls@nyaraVT I'm not saying that now people can discriminate as they please. Obviously not. But legislation is not as plentiful as you say it is. Especially federally. Some states have next to no legislation or protections, and queer youth face greater amounts of harassment and even assault.
@King_Big_Balls@nyaraVT Constitutional amendments, including the most famous ones, like the 1st amendment, didn't even apply to state governments until the doctrine of incorporation. It's only through change that we have won more protections enshrined in law.
@King_Big_Balls@nyaraVT The problem is, the courts don't apply the same standards to all cases, race discrimination has fallen under strict scrutiny, sex under intermediate, and other, including sexual orientation, under an even more leniant standards. Hence why legislation providing specifics helps.
@King_Big_Balls@nyaraVT I said sure to my original reply why sure maybe it doesn't belong it title IX. But again, the 14th amendment is only for government institutions, it does not apply to private individuals. That's why we have Title IX, that's why more legislation is needed to protect people.
@King_Big_Balls@nyaraVT No no no, I included in my replies that you responded to, don't give me any of that "I didn't see it bullshit". You chose not to respond to that part. And no it's not a complicated question, I said sexual orientation in my original reply, not gender identity. Answer that.
@King_Big_Balls@nyaraVT And I want to ask again, because you have dodged it twice now, do you want lgbtq students to face discrimination? It's a simple yes or no.
@King_Big_Balls@nyaraVT And again with your "why would Republicans want to do it" I ask you with sincerity, do you want lgbtq students to face discrimination? If not, then why roll back protections? If you don't like the change to Title IX, pass new legislation. Why don't Republicans do that?
@King_Big_Balls@nyaraVT LGBTQ students are subject to higher rates of bullying, hate speech, unsafe environments where they have to hide who they are, higher rates of assault, etc. To pass new legislation, you need to overcome the filibuster in the Senate, 60 votes, which Democrats didn't have.
@King_Big_Balls@nyaraVT I should have clarified, why don't Republicans pass legislation to protect lgbtq people from discrimination in education? Democrats wouldn't push back against that, Republicans could get it done. So why don't they? They could pass the aforementioned broader protections, why not?
@King_Big_Balls@nyaraVT It's also sexual orientation. TItle IX prohibits discrimination in education receiving federal funding. Genuine question, do you want to make it easier to discriminate against queer people? If not, why not just remove the sports thing, and still prevent broader discrimination?
@LukeSmi13973568@ProgressiveVic This doesn't have to be the case, other countries are building them just fine. Solar energy requires much more material, land, and requires replacement more often, and nuclear is also seeing new development and technologies just like other power sources are.
@LukeSmi13973568@ProgressiveVic And to surpass nuclear they had to overcome a massive amount of... about 60 operational power plants, 18% of the nation's power supply. Why don't we use nuclear, wind, solar, and hydro? Nobody in favor of nuclear is saying other renewables bad, just that we could be doing both.
@ArkenElAmerikan@acalce1000 They are not the same. I have nothing against Jewish people, but I do not support a state for them specifically. Nor do I for any ethnic or religious group. Many people are against any state for a certain group of people, wanting instead all places to be equal for everyone.
@ThrobbinWill69 @frieda_lessar@Geiger_Capital Acquiring the documents to get that costs more, the trip to the DMV can be a full day of travel depending on location. I'm all for voter ID, but why don't we just give them for free? Other countries treat it as a right and give out IDs to citizens for free, why not us too?
@Fredrik52982353@MAGALife69420@BrentScher Again, if you care at all, which I'd imagine you do as you seem passionate. Try finding some people in person to talk to, discuss with, and see how you and a transgender person actually have a fair amount in common, and how they are just trying to live life as best as they can.
@Fredrik52982353@MAGALife69420@BrentScher It applies to everyone, I'm quite far left politically, and if I were to apply what I see online to all conservatives, then my opinion would be very poor. But I know that it's not a good example of people, because social media shows you the worst possible to keep you engaged. 3
