"..there is sufficient staffing and equipment capacity within our public health care system to improve the wait list for MRIs and CT scans, there has been a lack of commitment from governments to expand the public system, in favour of more private.."

Presser also clarifies that the regulations will set out when the public system will reimburse these services and when they will be strictly private pay. It sounds like there will be a threshold whereby gov will reimburse if you self-refer and test reveals something serious. /6
In a press conference, Lagrange claimed there would be safeguards to protect the public system, but look how well that worked with the chartered surgical facilities: https://t.co/823arKcdTD /5
@JNOT88 Similar restrictions that existed at the federal level were found unconstitutional in Quebec. Although that Quebec decision is not binding in Alberta, one would have hoped that it would have been more persuasive on the government here.
@JackieSeidel1 Apparently the requirement can be waived if no family member is "reasonably available". But if they don't want them? Too bad, I guess.
Whatever happened to being able to have privacy in the medical context if that's what you want?
The bill also reiterates requirements in the federal law: those receiving MAID must be 18 and capable. Quebec has gone in an opposite direction and is now permitting MAID for those who requested it while capable and then lost capacity: https://t.co/6BraPHEFh5 /10
The bill establishes a care coordination service to assist providers, assist individuals in requesting MAID, and establish requirements for those providing MAID (eg educational requirements). The head of the care coordination service may approve those who can provide MAID. /9
