@CultWisDumb@_Cultch Every god claim I've seen is unfalsifiable, making it untestable. This means the person making the claim must hold the burden of proof. For me to test the truth claims of another religion, I'd either need a god claim that is falsifiable, or proof of their god.
@iconogazm I did this to my sister the same day I learned the church is false in order to verify the claim to ensure it wasn't one of those "anti-mormon lies" I was warned about.
She was... mildly displeased.
If I had a nickel for every basketball-related inspirational Mormonism video made by missionaries I knew from high school, I'd have over two dollars, and I'd donate that money towards helping them find a new analogy.
@deconst_therapy Letter For My Wife was the main helper for me. After I was out I binged Bryce Blankenagel's Naked Mormonism podcast so I could figure out what really happened in Joseph Smith's life and compare it to the lies I've been taught.
@joshnaa2gez I was taught about the peep stone in Seminary. I was also taught about Joseph Smith translating the gold plates directly in every level of church. The one and only true church of god only seems interested in perpetuating the myth, not putting a stop to it.
@DanielBurdett44@joshnaa2gez He didn't refute it, he claimed otherwise. A refutation requires evidence. Those working with him on writing the book say the plates were never used.
@Lakers_Fan2314 You didn't even read what I said. I didn't say it's "just" a theory. I said it's a theory. And it is. A scientific theory is the closest something can possibly get to a fact within science.

@ianmiles They used to, up until 1978. But the church is trying to kick things down the memory hole and pretend it never happened, so now these beliefs primarily reside among the older members. Most younger members have no idea this was a part of their doctrine.
@IslamsProblems@Lakers_Fan2314@Zvbear Yes, evolution is a theory! This is what a theory is (see the first two paragraphs): https://t.co/AWlXcEjRHC
There's fairly extensive documentation on the fossils you're talking about. This page has several sources at the bottom that are fun to read. https://t.co/wNXZOvElWX
@0Ninjaa@Lakers_Fan2314@BuceesUSA In other words, the reason evolution is considered to be a scientific theory is because it has such an incomprehensible amount of evidence behind it, without a single disproof, that it would be utterly ridiculous to believe that species don't change over time.
@0Ninjaa@Lakers_Fan2314@BuceesUSA ...dude, read what I just barely sent. EVOLUTION IS A THEORY. An explanation of an aspect of the universe that has been repeatedly tested and corroborated in accordance with the scientific method, using accepted protocols of observation, measurement, and evaluation of results.
@Lakers_Fan2314@BuceesUSA Hello, hardcore atheist here. Evolution says absolutely nothing about there being no god. Evolution is the change in the characteristics of a species over several generations. It's very obvious that evolution does occur, but the existence of any god isn't relevant to that.
@0Ninjaa@Lakers_Fan2314@BuceesUSA Unfortunately, the colloquial definition of "theory" is very different from what it means in a scientific context, and a lot of confusion can come from that. The first paragraph or two of this should help clear it up:
