I’m pretty much giving up on focus stacking in photoshop. Every time I try, I find something doesn’t align properly. Then I go try Helicon Focus and remember why I got it in the first place. The results are always better.
@CodingEtudes @maniacallemon @TiloJacs@clairevo You’re right. Even companies that are known for engineering excellence are know for the value they deliver first and foremost. That’s what CEOs talk about on stage. It’s a question of conveying to them how building engineering excellence drives more value.
@CodingEtudes@TiloJacs@clairevo Said another way, make sure resolving the tech debt can be framed as a feature the team is delivering. https://t.co/simgauiigY
Whenever I raise these issues, what people like to say is "managers want to prioritize features". And I've tried to acknowledge in many different ways. Yes they do. For better or worse, we live under this assumption that something called "features" is what drives business.
@CodingEtudes@TiloJacs@clairevo Ship now is frequently the right answer, if you understand the trade offs. Otherwise, it’s a dangerous answer. Whether or not you can quantify tech debt (usually easiest if you’ve lived with it for a time), you still have to explain the trade off in not resolving it.
@TiloJacs@clairevo Exactly, and this is what Claire is getting at. “Pay down tech debt” won’t get attention. “Improve response time by 5%” will, even if they’re both describing the exact same code change. It’s framed to be evaluated vs other business priorities.
@hugoraphy Got one a month or so ago. Loving it for landscapes. Much more compact than a 150-600, so more likely to take it hiking. Not as good for wildlife, but I’m finding plenty of landscapes in the 200-400 range where a 70-200 wouldn’t do it.
@mstine@allenholub Doesn’t it depend on the exact wording of the control? Many are phrased so you can make a case that the on-the-fly review you get during mobbing meets the wording and spirit of the control. If your control is too rigid though, you may be out of luck.
Two years, tens of thousands of miles and almost eighty days chasing monsoon storms across Arizona. Hope you enjoy! @CanonUSA@CanonUSAimaging https://t.co/7k69gIbJzb
@shanselman Those test scripts that make sure you have a clean database at startup so your test runs are all reproducible? Yeah, so you should make really really sure those aren’t run from a system where the environment is configured to connect to a prod database…
@gnuconsulting Screens for uncommonly used controls are okay. Physical controls for common controls are far superior. Ten years ago, I didn’t think the UX of a car’s a/c and music would be a deciding factor for a purchase decision, but it will be next time I’m in the market.
