🇺🇦 UKRAINE EXHUMES OUN FOUNDER YEVHEN KONOVALETS FOR REBURIAL WITH MILITARY HONORS

The remains of Yevhen Konovalets have been exhumed from Crooswijk Cemetery in Rotterdam and will be transported to Ukraine for reburial at the National Military Memorial Cemetery with special honors.

Konovalets commanded the Ukrainian Military Organization (UVO), an organization that employed sabotage and political violence, before founding the far-right Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) in 1929.

Under Konovalets, Ukrainians carried out a campaign of violence against Poles, while he established contacts with German military and intelligence circles.

He led the OUN until 1938, when Soviet intelligence officer Pavel Sudoplatov assassinated him in Rotterdam with a bomb concealed in a box of chocolates.

The OUN would subsequently cooperate with Nazi Germany during World War II, while factions and forces from the movement became implicated in mass violence against Poles.
