Lee Kuan Yew, who transformed Singapore, once said something that always resonates with me. He said that the more intelligent and talented people he had in his cabinet, the greater the success of his policies, the easier governance became, and the more developed his nation grew.
WHAT IS YOUR STATE DOING ABOUT POWER?
Lagos State has issued 14 new electricity distribution licenses as part of ongoing reforms aimed at reshaping the state’s power sector and introducing more competition into the market.
Meanwhile Lagos is mandating every hotel with over 20 rooms must have an onsite sewage treatment plant instead of building a citywide system that business & residents should connect to.
Somewhere in Africa, there’s a politician promising that if elected, they’ll transform cities to look this good. But once in office, they travel to developed countries and brag on the media, posting photos and videos from their trips. Then there are gullible people who praise them and call them an inspiration.
They never fulfill their promises or do their duties. And when they do, the work is half-baked and tacky. But they’ll still show you on the media, through vacation photos and videos, how beautiful a developed country looks.
That is the only way they can feel superior to their subjects. I mean, if everyone enjoyed the benefits of development, how would they make you beg them to do their jobs and hand out empty promises that keep them in power?
@osazenoo The planners must find the best amongst them to continue after every 8 years. That's the way to sustain it. Elrufai made that in Kaduna but brought an outsider ahead of the insiders and the whole thing has been truncated.
@AbasKendrix Yes, that's the result of urban planning and some strict implementation. Do this at any city and watch how it turns to a paradise on earth too!
Unshaded asphalt stores heat all day and releases it at night directly into your neighborhood.
It doesn’t matter if your house cost $50k or $500k. Without street trees and grass setbacks, you’re sleeping in a slow oven.
Green infrastructure lowers local ambient temperatures by up to 5.5°C. That’s not landscaping. That’s climate engineering at street level.
The most expensive thing missing from most African cities isn’t better materials. It’s shade.
Ours is "Exceeding Expectations" with a new and "first Public Relations University in Africa" at the Governor’s village, some flyovers, underpasses and erm an "upgrade" of a hospital into a "specialists hospital". All of which are in towns without any development guide!

What is your State building?
No type of "deodorant" or "perfume" used should make you accept a state or local government that ignores urban planning.
It is the only way you will know if they truly care about you!
@olowogear Thanks bro.
What most of us don't know is that urban planning is even more than about aesthetic of the city or town. It is actually about life.
Urban planning is how we know if our government cares about us.

Meanwhile, Nigerian cities desperately need to bring back urban planning. There is no good reason for everywhere to look like dustbin. We are not cursed.
You have a city with no pipe-borne water, hospitals, schools, poor electricity, dirty and infested environment and your "signature project" in seven years is a flyover?!
Flying to where friend?
