📢 New paper is out in Redox Biology: “Female sex is a risk factor for exacerbated lipid peroxidation and disease in murine retinitis pigmentosa.”
Female RP mice exhibit increased lipid peroxidation and accelerated disease progression. https://t.co/RQEyejgUwp

🚨 New paper out in IOVS!
💡 Accumulating evidence, including our new article, suggests the retina may actively rewire itself in early disease, which could shape future strategies to preserve vision.

What a week in Prague at #RD2025! 🚀 Keynotes on gene therapy, proteomics & adaptive optics OCT, new insights into degeneration pathways, and exciting advances in cell & drug therapies.
Grateful to be part of such a collaborative and forward-looking retinal research community!
Check out our new perspective article about cAMP and/or cGMP inhibition as a potential solution to address unmet therapeutic need in retinitis pigmentosa. Very proud of PhD student Katri V and PhD Ahmed M (and myself :)) of putting this together.

Full week of learning about the retina in the FASEB Biology and Chemistry of Vision conference is coming to an end! Always so educative! Till next time (2027)? 🙂 #research#Science#vision
Check out our outreach article explaining how old drugs could ”get a new life”, be repurposed to a new type of use (new indication), and change lives of people suffering from currently untreatable diseases.
Big bucks this time! Great gratitude to Jane & Aatos Erkko Foundation for super-powering our research 2026-2029 with close to 1 m€!
Big thanks to the @LRLlab members for enabling this!
Calling all researchers interested in drug repurposing!🔬💊

Many thanks to @Dr_HLeinonen , @LRLlab , and our collaborators at UCI Health Gavin Herbert Eye Institute and University of Ottawa
New paper! We performed comprehensive proteomics analyses from retinas of three commonly used disease models. The results indicate high convergence of pathophysiological cellular signaling in RP. The new knowledge facilitates design of novel therapies.
