Good discussion with Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister @vpetrova_mfa on the sidelines of #FAC.
Looking forward to deepening our bilateral ties. Our cooperation in supporting #Ukraine and advancing the #EU enlargement process remains crucial. A stronger Europe is built on unity and decisive action.
Today, Lithuania marks the Day of Mourning and Hope – the date when, 85 years ago, the brutal stalinist regime began the mass deportations of peaceful citizens of #Lithuania. Civil servants, doctors, teachers, farmers, lawyers, and even newborn babies were labelled “vragami naroda” – enemies of the people. Entire families were torn apart, taken from their homes in the middle of the night and transported in cattle wagons to Siberia, forced to survive in inhuman conditions. Around 17,000 Lithuanians were deported during the June deportations in 1941, and hundreds of thousands were deported over the course of the soviet occupation. Only a few of them managed to survive.
There is no family in Lithuania untouched by this tragedy. And today, as Russia repeats the same in #Ukraine, the echoes of history feel painfully close. The forced deportations of Ukrainian civilians – including children – from occupied territories; filtration camps where people are brutally interrogated, separated, or disappeared; deliberate attacks on residential areas and civilians; and systematic terror against people simply trying to survive – all of this reminds us that the machinery of repression did not vanish with the 20th century.
Russia’s crimes against humanity committed today in Ukraine mirror the horror stories of the soviet occupation passed down in our own families – the knock on the door at night, the trains, the separation, the fear, the death. They remind us that unpunished brutality tends to repeat itself when justice is denied.
Every crime against humanity must face justice. Just as the crime of aggression by Russia against Ukraine… Justice is not only a moral duty to the victims – it is the only safeguard that prevents such horrors from returning.
As we honour those who suffered and perished 85 years ago, we also stand with those who endure violence today, insisting that accountability is the foundation of just and lasting peace.
The USSR regime claimed millions of innocent lives. The first mass deportation of Lithuanian residents took place on 14-19 June 1941. Around 17K innocent people were deported from Lithuania to Siberia – most of them were women & children. Many never returned home.
I strongly condemn the heinous Russian drone attack against an apartment building in the Romanian city of Galați. This is a blatant violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Romania and the basic principles of international law.
Russia bears full responsibility for the consequences of its war of aggression against Ukraine!
Russia’s war of aggression has crossed yet another line.
A Russian drone incursion struck a densely populated area in Romania, injuring civilians.
On EU territory.
We stand in full solidarity with Romania and its people.
As we continue strengthening our security and deterrence, especially on our Eastern border, we will keep increasing the pressure on Russia.
We are preparing a 21st package of sanctions.
Another drone incursion on NATO’s eastern flank as a result of Russia’s war against Ukraine - this time in Romania, with people wounded. This must not become a new reality that we simply grow accustomed to.
We stand in full solidarity with Romania and its people.
Once again, this underlines the urgent need for maximum pressure on Russia to end its brutal and criminal war, stronger support for Ukraine, and decisive steps to strengthen NATO’s eastern flank.
"One of these drones entered Romanian airspace, was tracked by radar as far as the southern part of the city of Galati, and crashed onto the roof of an apartment building, with the impact triggering a fire,"
Romanian ministry of defense: "During the night of May 28-29, the Russian Federation resumed drone attacks on civilian and infrastructure targets in Ukraine, near the river border with Romania"...
On International Day of Heroes of the Fight Against Totalitarianism, we honour Witold Pilecki. During WWII, he volunteered to endure the horrors of Auschwitz to report them to the world. Inside, he also organized a resistance. Arrested for espionage, he was executed OTD in 1948.
Today is an International Missing Children's Day. Another day for us to remember that since 2022 russia has forcibly transferred almost 21,000 🇺🇦 children to areas under its control, assigned them russian citizenship & turned them against their homeland. #BringKidsBack
Great discussion at the @GLOBSEC today with fellow ministers @oana_toiu@Tsahkna@Xavier_Bettel.
My key points:
The world faces systemic instability not seen since the Cold War. The rules-based order is under sustained pressure from #Russia, #China, and #Iran. If it collapses, there are no winners - only a more fragmented, dangerous, and unpredictable world.
Ukraine is the frontline of this struggle. Its fight is not only for freedom, but for Europe’s future. Supporting Ukraine is the most cost-effective choice: deterrence today is far cheaper than a wider war tomorrow.
#Ukraine’s long-term security lies in integration - into the #EU (by 2030) and Euro-Atlantic structures. At the same time, Russia’s aggression must not be legitimized, and accountability for its crimes is essential for lasting peace.
Europe must act: invest more, produce more, and move faster. Defence spending must turn into real capabilities. To preserve peace, we must be ready - and we must do it together.
✊ NATO fighter jets in Šiauliai symbolize Allied unity.

🇱🇹🇪🇺 Lithuania has secured €6.4bn through the SAFE programme to strengthen national and European security. The funding will support air defence systems, CAESAR howitzers, ammunition, and the development of of Lithuania’s national division capabilities.
🇪🇪🇫🇮🇮🇸🇱🇻🇱🇹🇵🇱🇷🇴🇸🇪 stand in solidarity with 🇺🇦. In a joint statement, we condemned the decision by the IPC to allow athletes from aggressor 🇷🇺 and its accomplice 🇧🇾to be part of the 2026 Paralympic Winter Games and to display their state symbols. https://t.co/Q1HRNu8LUt 1/3
For four long years, Ukraine has been defending itself against a full-scale invasion started by Russia.
Remain united. Help Ukraine financially. Invest in Ukraine’s defence. Support Ukraine’s speedy accession to the EU. Seek justice for Russia’s war crimes. Slava Ukraini!
Lithuania chose energy security early.
In 2014, the LNG terminal "Independence" ended dependence on a single, unreliable supplier. In 2022, Lithuania became the first in the EU to completely end Russian gas imports and and helped secure reliable alternatives for our neighbors.
Lithuanians have already raised €1M for Ukraine in just one week. 🇱🇹🤝🇺🇦
