🔁Procedure- It is a minimally invasive procedure creating a channel between the hepatic vein & the portal vein to decompress portal hypertension.
⛑️Indication- It is primarily indicated for complications of portal hypertension such as refractory variceal bleeding & ascites unresponsive to medical treatment. ✅TIPS effectively reduces portal pressure, improving survival & symptom control.
🚫Contraindications- Severe heart failure, severe pulmonary hypertension, active infection & advanced liver failure.
⚠️Common complications- Hepatic encephalopathy (seen in 30-50% cases), shunt dysfunction or thrombosis, hemorrhage, liver ischemia & rarely, infection of the shunt (endotipsitis) & Post TIPS liver failure.
