@muppetsfan100 Hi there, sorry for the delay! I’m taking a bit of a break from Twitter atm. The store is closed atm because of covid-19 and how difficult it is for us to safely send post. I’ll put out a tweet when it’s open again! :) thanks!

we have to get better at the long fight. that doesn't mean not celebrating triumphs along the way, but i'm embarrassed to see people praising/thanking our gov. for the scraps we've been thrown when they're literally defunding the arts + cultural sectors right in front of our eyes
We've been looking over the submissions that come in & trying to find patterns. One thing that jumped out was the immense disparity in rates for the same kind of work.
It's what we're calling the wiiiiiiiiiiiiide diviiiiiiiiiiiide: A Thread 1/
No matter how well known the school. Whether they mean your career at large or the chance to study there. They’re the ones that owe you. They owe you a fair education, a safe space, one where you’re not going to be harrased or subjected to racist shit, among other things.
Reminder for students/alum from institutions like MICA or SVA speaking up against professors, racial biases, and harassment: if anyone ever tries to tell you to think about what you owe to the school - its bullshit. They owe YOU. A college without its students is nothing.
Yeah this and the whole “starving artist” myth etc etc play into the hands of bad clients - if you’re desperate for money, they know you’ll take any job no matter how small the fee and exploitative the contract
Art isn’t any different from other industries: people with money and support can afford to make mistakes - and grow from it - that poorer people can’t. Also your day job to pay the bills doesn’t only take your time, it takes your energy and ability to concentrate on your art
A thing I don’t think gets discussed enough by pro artists is privilege. Most people could get to pro artist level if they had the same opportunities and support structure that we had. It takes a lot of time to get good enough to live entirely off your art.
@grrrrace Urghh yeah it’s crazy! Like you have to risk either having to give up on your career or your livelihood, and you’ll probably end up miserable either way
Exc: Labour's BAME staff groups demand meeting with Keir Starmer over "discomfort and disappointment" caused by his Black Lives Matter interview
BLM not a "moment" but a "movement" that has given voice to black people globally
Fears of "hierarchy of racism" under his leadership
After years of shitty jobs, I got a 2.5 day a week one that pays all my bills and suddenly my art was improving quicker in a few months than it had in years. Bittersweet, knowing that all this time if I’d had the money I could be 1000 times further on in my career!!!
Teachers who think they’re ‘preparing students for the real world’ when they demean, rip up or make examples of students artwork aren’t helping those students at all. Rather, they’re teaching shame, regret and crushing the passion they had for art. There is no reason for it.
These prison building plans have been condemned many times. For them to be celebrated now - in the middle of a pandemic & when focus should be on reducing the prison population, rooting out racism in our criminal justice system & rebuilding communities - is obscene. It must stop.
