More than 40 million Americans are in the path of a powerful nor'easter hammering the East Coast as hundreds of flights are canceled and thousands of customers remain without power.

The storm is ramping up along the Jersey Shore, bringing heavy rain, strong winds, coastal flooding, and pounding surf. Days of north and northeast winds have already pushed water into New Jersey's back bays, and multiple high-tide cycles are still ahead.

Now, the threat shifts farther north. The storm's track could bring some of the heaviest rain from coastal New Jersey and Long Island into parts of New England as conditions intensify across the Northeast.
