Hidetaka Tenjin: “Mamoru Oshii told me, ‘This is actually my first time doing a robot anime!’”

Yutaka Izubuchi: “Oshii probably doesn’t see Patlabor as a robot anime.”

Tenjin: “I told him, ‘But I’m working on Patlabor right now,’ and Oshii replied, ‘Ah, but Patlabor is basically a slice-of-life series.’”

Izubuchi: “That’s not entirely wrong.”

Kazunori Ito: “I never wrote it thinking of it as a robot anime either.”
