If you’re an administrator making teacher placements without genuine teacher input, then you’re not advocating for students.
I’ve watched great teachers burn out and leave the profession after years of constant scheduling and assignment changes.
Millennials are the elite generation because they cranked out 12-page essays the night before they were due. No ChatGPT. No Claude. Just lo-fi beats playing in the background, Black coffee at midnight, footnotes that were somehow correct, and pure delusion. Grade was an A minus. Period.
Baby, Zora Neale Hurston started that novel with, "Ships at a distance have every man's wish on board." Toni Morrison opened on, "Quiet as it's kept, there were no marigolds in the fall of 1941." Black women writers just KNEW how to start a novel. Lord let us keep those recipes.
Black men make up less than 1.6% of all teachers in America… but at Charles R. Drew High School, they are seen EVERYWHERE! He got to dap up, hug, and shake hands with over 30 Black male educators!

Having veteran teachers on staff is huge. Young energy is also needed, but a lot of crazy things happen because there are no respected, veteran educators on staff to pull people to the side (teacher, principal, parent, custodian, or student) and quietly say what needs to be said.
“I tell my students, 'When you get these jobs that you have been so brilliantly trained for, just remember that your real job is that if you are free, you need to free somebody else. If you have some power, then your job is to empower somebody else".
― Toni Morrison
Now that #BlackHistoryMonth is over I hope that educators remain committed to embedding Black history in teaching, learning and leading all year round and challenging anti-Black racism in education and schooling
Schools can have their curriculum, instruction, procedures, policies, assessments, and all the rest perfect
But if they don’t have discipline? None of the rest matters a whit
I invite you to honor my mother, #CorettaScottKing, with me.
Without her, there would be no federal holiday commemorating my father’s birthday.
And @TheKingCenter, which she founded less than three months after Daddy was assassinated, would not exist.
I’m grateful for her commitment to freedom, true peace, justice, and Kingian nonviolence.
I’m inspired by her love for humanity, her faith in God, and her consistency to purpose.
Salute, Mama.
