@arthistorynews Looking at the replies to this, it's worth saying that the council doesn't own Wright's house and that the city already has a fine museum and art gallery with the best collection of his work you will find anywhere. It's well worth a visit if you like Wright's art.
After my talk on Wright of Derby, I went to see his house, near Derby Cathedral. A sorry sight; derelict, under threat of demolition, occupied by squatters. A sad way to remember one of our artistic giants!
So, I've just spent a bit of time looking into the debate on IHT and farming. I... got a shock. First, a note: I have a friend who runs a family farm. In his view, the whole thing is a something and nothing. 🧵
@zoe_grunewald Same with EMR. But it’s not just wifi, general 4g coverage is awful too. I took a train across Bulgaria (from Sofia to the Black Sea) this summer and never lost signal. Yet 3 minutes out of KX and it’s gone. UK is falling behind
🚨At least FOUR people a day die while experiencing #homelessness.
Every six hours, someone passes away prematurely.
This is totally unacceptable.
Join us, @our_MoH & others at Downing Street to remember all we have lost... 💔

#OnThisDay 1265 Simon de Montfort and his supporters were hacked to death at the Battle of Evesham on the orders of the future Edward I. Here's my account: https://t.co/ce7weLIDC1
The battle of #Evesham was fought #OTD in 1265
Historians often cite the chronicler Robert of Gloucester’s phrase “the murder of Evesham, for battle it was none” to convey the unusual level of violence on that day. But Robert was being much more specific

The rebellion against Henry III saw considerable disorder across the #Midlands, with Robert de Ferrers, earl of #Derby, heavily involved. Yet much of this was strategic and coordinated
I’m very grateful to @MidlandHistory for publishing my research

THREAD: Today I held the 🇻🇦 Vatican Charlemagne gold coin in the palm of my hand.
Yes, the one that the emperor himself deposited on St. Peter's tomb, ca 800 AD.
I wasn't allowed to take a pic.
But I will post pics 👇 below 👇 - and you will be surprised!
Also, how it was found
Delighted to appear in this month's issue of @HistoryToday, writing about Richard III and the wider context of royal justice in late medieval and Tudor England!
Buzzing to share that my very first journal article was published today in @MidlandHistory
It provides an analysis of Robert de Ferrers’ involvement in the rebellion against Henry III, with a focus on the #Midlands#medievaltwitter
