@PaulKlayVC@aleximm What data though? For example; Reviews that can be easily manipulated or faked? Influence that can be bought? Do you want you agent buying big ticket items on your behalf based on data humans don’t trust?
My son George turned one last week. If becoming a dad has taught me one thing, it’s this; time waits for no man. We’ve all got to make the most of everyday
@ArisuIDO@AppStatement It's really early days but pretty exciting, some of the Statements being made are pretty cool. We thought most activity would be day to day purchases like coffee or travel (which we are seeing), but we're also seeing Statements like this: https://t.co/3JKBQriruD
Some of us are out here making Statements about our favourite coffee shops and fitness brands.
Meanwhile, Matt’s casually dropping £17,557.12 on a new boat to enjoy the last of the French summer 🇫🇷
Now that’s a Statement! https://t.co/h7CnM9TW74
@syc0ms@AppStatement Agreed, the app is where identity can be formed and in the future rewards redeemed. We’re working on an API not that will allow Statements to be initiated where the transaction happens and then shared where attention already is.
I’ve been working on something new..
It’s called Statement
The internet is becoming increasingly difficult to trust.
Fake reviews. Paid influence. AI-generated content flooding our feeds.
As a new father, it worries me that it’s becoming harder to know what’s real and what isn’t.
One thing that’s much harder to fake is a transaction. It either happened or it didn’t. It’s black and white.
Building VibePay, I spent most of my 20's thinking about the payment itself: how money moves and the rails it moves on.
With Statement, I’ve become obsessed with what happens after and whether verified transactions can help solve the growing trust problem by proving something really happened.
Every transaction connects:
• A real person
• A business
• The bank or financial institution that moved the money
Historically, the transaction ends and everyone goes their separate ways. What happened becomes just another static line on a bank statement, a record of the past.
Over the last 12 months, often between late night baby feeds (they are brutal, by the way), I’ve kept coming back to the same question: What if a verified transaction became the beginning of what happens next?
That’s what we’re exploring with @AppStatement
Today, Statements are initiated through our app.
You securely connect your bank or credit card (thanks to our partners @Plaid in the US and @Yapily in the UK and EU), choose a transaction you want to 'make a Statement' about, and add the photos, opinion and context only you can provide.
The result is a verified customer experience: part review, part UGC, backed by proof and designed to travel.
But I don’t think Statements will always begin in our app. In fact, I think most eventually won’t.
I imagine them being initiated wherever transactions already happen: At checkout. After a booking. Inside a banking app. In a receipt or order confirmation email.
Instead of a business asking:
“Leave us a review” - which fewer people trust.
Or:
“Fill out this survey” - who has time for that?
They ask:
“Make a Statement" about your experience.
I’ve always believed transactions could connect us in completely new ways. I’d like to discover where people like me go, what they buy and what they genuinely think, through experiences that actually happened and are backed by proof.
The idea of building a new kind of network around verified transactions both excites and scares me, which makes me think it’s worth giving it a go.
It’s incredibly early and to be honest, I don’t know exactly where this will go. I’m bootstrapping Statement with a small team - more on them soon. The product is live and people are already making Statements, but there’s still a huge amount for us to learn.
So rather than pretending we have all the answers, I’m looking for people willing to try it and tell us what they think. Go and make your first Statement. Your feedback this early would mean a lot.
You can work with trust 3rd party providers like @Plaid or @YapilyLtd for connectivity in the US/ UK and EU - and use their agency models. The challenge is having a good enough product and a strong enough value proposition for people to want to link their accounts and use your service. There’s also other companies doing this from Cleo (@Barney_H_Y is worth following if you’re passionate about this space) and now the big tech media platform such as @OpenAI / @Muse which allow you to link you accounts and get advice. So you’d have to think long and hard about A) what is your defendable valuable proposition - product B) What is your route to market, you need lots of users to make it work at scale with best in class unit economics (CaC vs LTV ratio) - which needs unique distribution. This is not to put you off pursing by the way, just trying to help 👍
