I think this may be confusing cause and effect a bit. From a driver’s perspective, we often don’t see a lack of freight — we see understaffed warehouses, where 2–4 hour loading times have become almost normal.
Even worse, the broker’s appointment sometimes doesn’t match the shipper’s, or you arrive only to find out that the load you booked today was supposed to be picked up yesterday or even two days ago. Now you’re considered “late,” sent to the back of the line, and burning HOS.
The truck is there, the driver is there, and the freight is there — but the truck is sitting. Lower freight activity doesn’t always mean there’s less freight. Sometimes the system itself is reducing its own capacity.
@FreightWaves There isn’t a driver shortage—there’s a pay shortage. Drivers and carriers won’t work below cost forever. Fair wages and sustainable freight rates would solve far more than simply trying to recruit more drivers.
@FreightWaves Real-world spot market ≠ SONAR charts. If capacity was truly tight, brokers wouldn’t be moving loads to tomorrow and offering $2.20–$2.50 per mile on regular freight
@usanewsreal The Constitution protects our right to practice religion, so banning Sharia isn’t necessary – it holds no power over U.S. laws. However, it’s worth keeping a close watch to ensure religious practices align with legal standards. B. No, but responsible oversight is needed!
