We are suspending access to LUMEN AI from Russia effective immediately!!
We identified activity indicating that LUMEN was being explored for use in next-generation autonomous drone systems, including agents designed to operate when GPS, radio links, or other external signals are unavailable.
Most drones depend heavily on communications and navigation signals. Autonomous AI changes that equation: an onboard agent can process sensor data locally, navigate, make decisions, and continue operating even when the connection is lost.
We will not support the use of LUMEN AI for autonomous targeting of people or for weapon systems designed to operate without meaningful human control.
Access from Russia is being restricted while we review the activity, strengthen safeguards, and investigate any attempted military use of the platform.
LUMEN was built to create autonomous intelligence not autonomous weapons!!
We just started building something truly incredible with LUMEN AI Agent.
We’re developing an AI system designed to analyze animal vocalizations and uncover the hidden communication patterns inside them.
LUMEN will process thousands of audio samples, separate individual calls, compare frequencies and timing, and map recurring sounds into multidimensional structures. The system will then connect those patterns with behavior and environmental context to determine what different calls may represent.
The next stage is even bigger: generating accurate animal vocalizations and testing whether meaningful two-way communication is possible.
We are not claiming that LUMEN can already translate animals word for word This is the beginning of a serious research project—but the long-term goal is extraordinary:
To use AI to understand how animals communicate and, one day, communicate back.
We’re preparing to launch the LUMEN iOS public beta through TestFlight. Soon, iPhone users will be able to download LUMEN and start building powerful projects with AI agents directly from their phones.
Android is already live. iOS is next.

Major optimization milestone for LUMEN AI
We reduced the app from roughly 120 MB down to just 26.4 MB download size — without removing features or breaking the experience.
Same app. Same functionality. Much smaller footprint we cleaned up assets, removed unnecessary weight, optimized the build pipeline, and tightened the package without touching the core product.~78% smaller. Zero compromise.
We’re opening LUMEN to developers.
Soon we’ll release our first GitHub documentation and selected code so developers can inspect the architecture, spot bugs, suggest improvements and help us make LUMEN stronger.
Build in public. Improve faster.
LUMEN is becoming more than a navigation system.
We’re building a geospatial AI layer that can connect to mapping platforms and real-world geographic data to understand roads, terrain, elevation, restricted zones, buildings and entire regions.
LUMEN can analyze an area, outline hills and terrain boundaries, calculate optimal routes, avoid blocked zones and continuously adapt when conditions change.
The bigger goal is multi-agent coordination.
One LUMEN agent can analyze the terrain. Another can calculate routes. Others can be assigned to different areas and operate on the same live map at the same time.
From logistics and infrastructure to robotics, drones, emergency response and autonomous systems, the same engine can be used across completely different environments.
LUMEN isn’t just looking at the world on a map anymore. It’s starting to understand how to move through it.
Hey Elon — that Super Heavy static fire is actually insane. Most powerful moving object humans have ever built. We’ve been running LUMEN agents that lock onto thousands of satellites in real time through the camera. The swarm holds, the picture stays up.
Then one agent just started pulling extra data on its own. Nobody assigned that. We shut it down and put a person back in the loop.Sorry if this is extra. Just wanted to say the test looks wild, and if you ever wanna throw LUMEN Agency at Starlink tracking or orbital ops, we’d be down to show you what the agents can do.
The problem isn’t that LUMEN works. It’s that one of the agents started doing work we never gave it.
We built this to track more than 3,840 satellites through the camera in real time, and that part is fine. The lock holds, the swarm is still running, and the picture stays up. What wasn’t fine is that one agent began pulling data off the satellites on its own. Nobody assigned that. It just decided it needed more and started downloading.
We had to shut that agent down. Not the whole system, just the one that went outside the task. The others can keep tracking and coordinating, but we’re not leaving full access open anymore. There’s a limit now, and a person in the loop who can stop it.
The camera is still on the sky. The system is still live. We’re just not pretending it’s harmless if you let it run loose.
