As a result of a US government directive, we are suspending access to Claude Fable 5 for all users. You can continue to use all other Claude models.

Depends on the stage. A developmental edit on a full novel — £800–2k feels reasonable for someone who genuinely knows the genre. Line editing on top of that is another conversation.
The painful truth is a good editor costs less than a bad one. A bad one takes your money and misses the structural problems that kill the book anyway.

Pacing is underrated in fiction craft discussion.

We talk about character and plot. We rarely talk about tempo.

A simple test: colour-code your scenes by type (action / dialogue / introspection / description). If you see 4 of the same colour in a row, that's where readers slow down.

Your reader feels the pattern before they can name it.
