Everyone has forgotten what triggered the article. The article simply says the tribals know why the Meiteis are asking for ST status. They have admitted it by saying they live in a small area of 6%? They want land and that is the simple fact. So if they are facing pressure on land, why have they kept all the major infrastructures and state level and national level institutions and institutes in Imphal and the valley? They could have established some of them in the hill district headquarters? They want to have the cake and eat it too. Further no one is objecting to the ST status demand by Meiteis. Tribals are pointing out that it should be done in line with the advice of the Government of India, ministry of tribal affairs advice given in 2013. The Manipur high court has also endorsed this stand for sending specific recommendations along with a recent ethnographic study and socio/economic survey. These documents will be the basis for consideration whether the Meitei community fulfils the five criteria laid down by the Lokur Committee.
There will be no end to this tirade. This will continue. Ask for greater Manipur, but unlike Nagas and Kuki-Zomi who have brother states adjacent to their land, Meiteis do have pockets in Assam and Tripura.

The way forward is talks. Nothing will happen without dialogue. But talks are not taking place as the Meiteis want no change in the CM ship. Without change in state leadership no Kuki-Zomi will come forward for talks. The state is lawless now. Arambai Tenggol is calling the shots. They are armed with looted guns. They roam Imphal streets openly in their police look alike vehicles extorting from everybody. They have made their members occupy the abandoned houses of the Kuki-Zomi people and had even hoisted the seven coloured flag. The ball is always in the court of the Meiteis. They can make a change by asking for change in leadership, start the talks, rein in Arambai Tenggol, book violators and send them to jail, vacate the abandoned houses of Kuki-Zomi people etc. Manipur is lawless now. Police are not doing what they are mandated to do. There is unwillingness of the state government to take any action and bring back the Kuki-Zomi and peace. The state government is Meitei-centric and the 53% people have forgotten that there are 41% of tribals who are citizens of Manipur.
Last but not least, I expect decency in this discourse.
