Verse 3, Copyright 2017 by Jon Alan Schmidt
Trust your God, the commandments say,
Who called and keeps me by His care.
May His good will be done, I pray,
And from temptation to be spared.
Body, blood under bread and wine;
Christ makes life and salvation mine.
@TimothySchmidt_ composed the music & @JonAlanSchmidt wrote the words for this original hymn based on #Luther's Small Catechism, "Fear Your God, the Commandments Say," which @ConcordiaPub considered but declined to publish. DM if interested in sheet music for congregational use.
Verse 2, Copyright 2017 by Jon Alan Schmidt
Love your God, the commandments say,
Who paid the price, my soul to win.
May His kingdom come now, I pray,
And for forgiveness of my sin.
My transgressions I here confess;
Christ absolves me, my conscience rests.
Today concludes our six-month journey through the Lutheran Catechism. My thanks to all who have followed along; I hope that you have been blessed in your reading & contemplation of Martin Luther's words on Law, Gospel, Discipleship.
Prayer: Thank you for the summary of your Word & Sacraments in the Catechism. Help me to use it daily to believe, love, pray & fight against the devil.
Week 26 - Saturday: SC Sacrament of the Altar, 5th Question, https://t.co/BVniPrqdSJ; LC V.85-87, https://t.co/tbXfqKzmco
Q1. Why is it important that young people be brought up in the Christian doctrine & understanding? How does the Catechism facilitate this?
Q2. At the same time, is anyone too old or too wise to benefit from reviewing the Ten Commandments, the Creed & the Lord's Prayer? Why not?
Q3. Who is primarily responsible for teaching these things? Why is it best done within the family, rather than at church?
Prayer: Saving Lord, remind me daily that the devil is truly out to get me. Thank you for providing your Word & Sacraments to inform me & protect me.

Q1. How did the devil behave toward Jesus while He was on earth? How should we expect the devil to behave toward us?
Q2. In what sense is the devil a liar & murderer? Why does he desire to lead us astray & bring us harm? How does the Sacrament protect us from him?
Q3. What do you observe when you examine yourself, the world & the devil in accordance w/ the Scriptures? What can you do about it?
Prayer: Forgive me for trusting my fallible feelings, rather than your sure Word. Help me to overcome my sinful flesh & the opposition of the world.

Q1. Why are our feelings an unreliable basis for ascertaining whether we need the Sacrament? What should we consult & believe instead?
Q2. What did Paul say about his flesh? Is yours any different? If your skin was leprous, yet you felt no pain, would you ignore it on that basis? Why not?
Q3. What do you see when you look at the world? What happens to godly
believers? Why should this drive us to the Sacrament?

Q3. What should you do when you do not feel a desire for the Sacrament? How does being reminded of our flesh demonstrate our need for it?
