$850,000 in federal funding is coming to install new cooling units at San Fernando Gardens in Pacoima!
These cooling units will keep seniors and children safe from dangerous extreme heat in Pacoima – one of the hottest areas in LA County during the summer.
I will continue working with @HACLA1938 and @MRodCD7 to deliver federal resources that protect our community from the effects of climate change.
Yesterday, I joined @RepZoeLofgren, @RepKevinMullin, and @Rep_Whitesides on an unannounced visit to the California City ICE Detention Center.
We heard accounts of rodents and scorpions throughout the facility and limited access to healthcare and contact visits for detainees.
No one should be forced to live in these conditions.
My colleagues and I will continue conducting oversight visits of ICE detention facilities and holding the Trump Administration accountable for its cruel treatment of detainees.
Proud to share this @LACity Channel 35 feature on a major step forward at Parthenia Place. 💻 With a $750K federal investment secured by Congresswoman @LuzRivas, residents will gain expanded digital access and opportunity.

>>@CAGovernor Gavin Newsom continued his advocacy for LA recovery funding in Washington, DC today:
The Governor met with members of California’s Congressional delegation, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, and other members of Congress to discuss Los Angeles wildfire recovery, Republican’s assault on voting rights, and efforts to defend immigrant communities.
Today's attack at the Islamic Center of San Diego is heartbreaking.
I stand with the Muslim community against Islamophobic attacks targeted at them.
I am grateful for the first responders and their quick actions to keep people safe. My thoughts go out to the victims, their families, and the San Diego community.
The Artemis II crew – Reid Weisman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen – captured the hearts, minds, and imaginations of audiences around the world. 🌎🚀🌕
Kids from all backgrounds saw what the Artemis II crew accomplished and are excited about going to space and exploring the far reaches of our solar system.
We must use this moment to empower students with the resources they need so they too can one day explore space.
State after state after state… Thanks to the Supreme Court, there is a race to redraw the South, to engineer electorates that give Trump all the majority-white districts he needs.
The tragedy is that this proves why we needed the Vioting Rights Act in the first place.
This week, I delivered over $1,600,000 in federal funding for projects in CA-29!
This includes:
💻 $750,000 for a computer lab, technology upgrades, and outdoor space renovations at Parthenia Place in North Hills.
AND
🚒 $850,000 for the construction of a NEW fire station in Sylmar.
The work doesn’t stop there. Learn more about these investments in this week’s Rivas Rewind. ⏪
This week, I joined One LA-IAF for a town hall and listening session where I heard from families in Pacoima about how the ICE raids have upended and traumatized their lives.
Mothers afraid to take their children to school. Parents quitting their jobs and staying at home to avoid being targeted by ICE.
No family should have to live in fear.
Thank you to every family who participated and bravely shared their story.
The Trump Administration must be held accountable for the chaos, trauma, and terror they have caused in our community.
The IEEE Eta Kappa Nu Honor Society recognizes excellence in electrical and computer engineering.
This weekend, I was honored to be inducted into the @csunorthridge chapter alongside talented STEM professionals and students.
As members, we have a duty to use our STEM experiences to empower each other and better our communities.
As co-chair of the STEM Education Caucus, I am working to strengthen STEM opportunities for students of all ages and backgrounds.
Public housing programs help hundreds of working families in my district afford to live in safe stable homes.
The Trump Administration is threatening these programs—putting more families at risk of being homeless and worsening his affordability crisis.
My Housing Without Fear Act protects families by stopping Trump from evicting them based on their citizenship status.

Because of the Trump Administration’s incompetence, DACA renewal applications are backlogged for MONTHS.
I met with DACA recipients at Immigo in North Hollywood who spoke up about their anxieties with the delays.
My office can help.
If you are a CA-29 resident and need assistance with DACA renewals, please call my office at (818) 253-3535.
As a member of the Congressional Armenian Caucus and representative of one of the largest Armenian American communities, I joined my colleagues in Congress for a commemoration of the Armenian Genocide.
The atrocities that were committed 111 years ago must never be forgotten.
That is why I am a proud cosponsor of the Armenian Genocide Education Act to ensure future generations understand the lasting impacts of this tragedy.
"While inspiration is important, it's not enough. Our children need to have the skills, the tools, and the opportunities available to take the hope that they have and make it a reality." -@RepLuzRivas
