Today, Black communities across North Carolina honor the past, unite around needs of the present, and contemplate the future. At a moment when the denial of justice is glaringly obvious and we are fighting to move forward instead of back, togetherness is vital. #juneteenth#nc
Juneteenth reminds us that freedom requires more than rights on paper. It requires meaningful access to opportunity, participation in democracy, and communities with the resources to thrive. https://t.co/uAHGc1y2AN #juneteenth#ncpol
Here's our controversial opinion: GDP shouldn't define how well our economy is doing. It should be measured by the well-being of workers instead.

Bad news for all NC workers: NC policymakers are pushing a constitutional amendment that would enshrine so-called "right-to-work" (RTW) laws in the state constitution! #NCGA#NCpol

School vouchers are directly tied to segregation.
In ‘59, Prince Edward County, VA, after Brown v. Board, closed their public schools for 5 years and used vouchers to fund private academies for white students.
History shows us where these ideas came from.

No more waiting, #NCGA. We deserve a transparent budget process that keeps North Carolinians in the loop of what’s going on with our tax dollars and delivers a budget that centers our well-being. #NCed#LoveNCFundNC

NC is spending nearly $600 mill a year on Opportunity Scholarships, but DOES NOT publicly release student performance data, use a common testing system across voucher schools, and has never produced clear evidence that the program is improving student outcomes.
Ever.

Where is the proof school vouchers improve outcomes?
NC spent almost $600 million last year on a 13 year old program, but still can’t prove it works.
However, we CAN prove that a lot of private school parents are getting taxpayer subsidies to pay their tuition.

State Treasurer Brad Briner wrote a letter to Wake County commissioners cautioning against approving a deal to merge Raleigh's WakeMed hospital with Atrium Health. He said prices would go up for WakeMed customers, including its largest customer: the State Health Plan. https://t.co/mV3WEH4541
States typically allocate their dollars for public education through a funding formula that they set. NC’s current system is a hybrid model, but there have been conversations about adopting a weighted funding model. What would that mean exactly? #nced https://t.co/fftgjbe53D
This NC State graduate spoke to the media before the NC legislature about the struggles, successes, and needs of those like her who are trying to build a future for themselves while too many leaders seem to only want to build barriers. #ncpol#graduation#BuildFuturesNotBarriers
Opportunity scholarship schools are pretty much black boxes. Why don’t #schoolchoice advocates support transparency?
They make the claim that kids are escaping bad schools for better ones, but there is no data showing that is the case.
Why? We need clear metrics.

Join @ncbudgetandtax for The People's Hearing on June 1, bringing together voices from classrooms, communities and families to lift up what people want for public schools and how tax policy can help make those priorities possible. https://t.co/KiELXDbHPp
