A8: I hope for a world where every woman can achieve her full potential and where women are represented in decision-making positions on an equal basis with men. Women should have equal access to educational opportunities and other resources to help them succeed.
A7: Women remain under-represented in leadership roles in government and business. The recent #Metoo movement shed light on the chilling effect sexual harassment has on women in the workplace. The League conducts advocacy efforts on legislation such as the Equal Rights Amendment.
A6: Members will be working a phone bank to contact former felons and assist them in registering. The League is encouraging vote-by-mail to ensure at-risk people can stay safe while voting. The League fights efforts to suppress voters through gerrymandering.
A6:The League of Women Voters was formed in 1920 to provide voter education to women (and now men). The League is a proud partner in the coalition working to ensure former felons can exercise their constitutional right to vote in Florida following the passage of Amendment 4.
Q6: Suffragists were the voting rights activists of their day. Voting rights remain a vital issue today. What are you doing to ensure everyone can vote?
A5: Peaceful protests methods including sit-ins and hunger strikes by those imprisoned have been used to protest on a variety of issues such as objections to the Vietnam War and police brutality.
