I've seen Abhishek fail throughout the series and World Cup, and Gill fail in 25–30 matches, yet neither got dropped. But Sanju, after saving India from getting knocked out and playing the best innings to help win the World Cup, gets dropped????

Ajit Agarkar wouldn't have dropped Sanju Samson even after 50 failures after that POTT WC winning performance, only if he was from Mumbai. He is from Kerala that is why he is facing this level of discrimination from Agarkar.

Don't forget, Sanju Samson also has 100 in SA in his last ODI with batting average of 56 & Agarkar dropped him from there too!

They have sidelined Sanju Samson. What a brutal move tbh. It shows they never wanted him in the XI, and were forced to fit in during the T20 World Cup after the outrage. Must be tough for them to see him performing since that made them play him rest of the tournament and eventually he was the star of the win.

Sometimes I don’t understand why Ajit Agarkar was and is always against Sanju Samson

In 2023, India had 3 squads for the Asia Cup, Asian Games & ODI World Cup. 31 different players got selected across those tournaments & somehow Sanju wasn’t part of any squads. What’s even crazier is that he was picked as a reserve player for the Asia Cup, which meant he wasn’t part of the Asian Games squad & it also affected his plans to play County Cricket. So in the end he wasn’t part of the Asia Cup squad, wasn’t part of the Asian Games squad & couldn’t continue with his County plans either. Everyone who followed the ODI matches before the 2023 World Cup knew Sanju was the most deserving guy who wasn’t picked in the squad.

When Sanju scored 3 T20I centuries as an opener in 2024, Ajit Agarkar openly said he was only playing because Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal were unavailable. Imagine saying that about a player who had just scored 3 centuries in 5 matches for India in T20Is something no one has done before in a year. Most players would get backed after performances like that. That was so disrespectful from the national selector. I wonder how Sanju would have felt that day.

Then came the ODI explanation. Ajit Agarkar said Sanju wasn’t being picked because he was a top-order batter. But Sanju has literally batted everywhere in ODI cricket other than opening and his numbers have been excellent irrespective of the position. His last ODI innings was a match-winning century in a series decider against South Africa at Paarl, one of the toughest batting venues in the country, and after that innings he never played another ODI for India.

Last year selectors picked ODI squad with 3 different WKs for a series & Sanju wasn’t one of them. That’s when the explanation came that Sanju is a top-order batter. But now Virat Kohli gets injured and India need a No.3 batter, yet Sanju still isn’t being considered despite being the last Indian batter other than Kohli to score an ODI century at No.3. So he wasn’t picked because he was a top-order batter, but when a top-order spot opens up he still isn’t picked. What kind of logic is that?

And the most frustrating part is that it’s always the same guy missing out whenever an ICC event comes around when he deserve the most

What’s even crazier is that during the T20 World Cup cycle he gets some chances in ODI squads while completely neglecting him in T20 squad , and vice versa during the ODI World Cup cycle he would suddenly appear in T20 squads. Not because he was getting consistent opportunities, but because he was never given a clear role or a long run in either format. 2-3 failures & he would be out again💔

No backing. No continuity. No clarity.

Things have always been different when it comes to Sanju Samson

First time he was picked for an ICC event was for the 2024 T20 World Cup, but didn’t get to play a single match & India won an ICC tournament after more than a decade

The only ICC tournament Sanju Samson has actually played in during his entire 11-year international career was the 2026 T20 World Cup.

The only ICC tournament he actually got an opportunity to play, he ended up being the best player of the tournament📈

One of the things I admire most about Sanju is that he has never shown frustration. He never complained, never held grudges against those who disrespected him, and never made excuses. He always kept a smile on his face, even during the lowest moments of his career 💎

Every opportunity had to be earned the hard way, every place in the squad had to be fought for, and every setback had to be overcome without any backing

Even after winning the WorldCup as POTT, some people are still questioning his place in the team which makes me realise that every match for Sanju will always remain as a “Do or Die” game😅

Why Sanju Samson deserves important consideration for India’s next T20 captaincy after SKY 🇮🇳

This is not about fan wars or personal preferences. It is simply a look at Sanju Samson’s experience, leadership background, availability, performances, and standing within the current Indian setup.

• Sanju Samson made his international debut in 2015 and is one of the most experienced players in India’s current T20 setup. He has spent more than a decade around the national team environment and has worked under multiple captains, coaches, and management groups.

• He has previous leadership experience at multiple levels. Sanju captained and vice-captained India’s Under-19 team, later led India A, and has spent several years leading Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. Leadership is not something new to him.

• Sanju remains the only Rajasthan Royals captain after Shane Warne to take the franchise to an IPL final. Considering the history of the franchise and the challenges involved in building a competitive squad, that achievement deserves recognition.

• Since the 2024 T20 World Cup, Sanju has been a constant member of India’s T20 plans. He was appointed vice-captain during the Zimbabwe series and has remained part of every T20 assignment since then. He has not missed series due to recurring fitness or injury concerns. His availability has been one of his biggest strengths.

• Sanju currently plays only one format for India. Despite having excellent ODI numbers, he continues to be overlooked in that format and has never been considered for Test. From a workload perspective, this means he is available for every T20 series, camp, and ICC event.

• One of the most important qualities in a captain is the respect of teammates. Current players, former players, overseas teammates, and support staff have consistently spoken highly of Sanju’s personality and leadership style.

• He has built a reputation for being approachable, calm, and respectful towards everyone in the dressing room. Players often perform better under leaders who trust them rather than constantly put them under pressure.

• A good example of the respect he enjoys came after his IPL century against Mumbai Indians. Despite the intensity of one of the biggest rivalries in the tournament, several senior Mumbai Indians players personally approached Sanju after the match to congratulate him. Moments like these reflect the regard he commands across teams and within the wider cricketing fraternity.

• Since being promoted as an opener, India’s T20 approach has changed significantly. The team has consistently played a far more aggressive brand of cricket and has regularly crossed the 250-run mark. An interesting pattern is that whenever India has posted these massive totals, Sanju Samson has often been the team’s leading run-scorer. When India scored 297 against Bangladesh, Sanju was once again the highest scorer. He has not just benefited from India’s new approach; he has been one of the driving forces behind it.

• A look at India’s highest T20 partnerships also highlights Sanju’s value to the batting unit. His name appears repeatedly because of his ability to adapt to different match situations. He can take the attack to the opposition from ball one, but he is equally comfortable playing second fiddle when another batter is dominating. This flexibility allows his partners to play their natural game and has contributed to several of India’s biggest partnerships in T20 cricket.

• During the Asia Cup final against Pakistan, after being moved down the order shortly before the tournament, he played an important role in rebuilding the innings alongside Tilak Varma when India were under pressure.
