Remembering the late, great Trevor Francis.

A true football superstar, Trevor first made his name with Birmingham City before rising to even greater fame following his record-breaking transfer to Nottingham Forest.

He later arrived at Maine Road in 1981, bringing real buzz and excitement as a marquee signing during John Bond’s rebuilding era. Rumours surfaced that the deal to bring Francis to Maine Road caused behind-the-scenes friction, during negotiations City chairman Peter Swales told manager John Bond that the club could not afford the transfer fee. Bond allegedly issued an ultimatum, if Francis did not sign, he would resign

Like many players of that time, his spell at City was relatively short, but he still made an impact, scoring 12 goals, including a memorable debut double against Stoke City. In total, he made 26 appearances before chairman Peter Swales sanctioned his move to Italian side Sampdoria.

Trevor will always be remembered fondly, not just by City fans, but by football supporters around the world.

A truly special player from a special era.
