Ultimately, for distribution systems already providing continuous, on-site, chemical contaminant-free drinking water, passive chlorinators can elevate drinking water to safely managed status.
4. Handpump compatibility. Currently 1.3 billion people obtain water from handpumps, but only 3 chlorinators reviewed here were designed with handpumps in mind. Continued work is needed to evaluate and improve handpump compatibility of existing and new devices.
