Is this a tax increase that benefits the home owner and the citizens of Toronto? An earlier report suggested that 6.5% would be needed to support refugees. So is the prop. tax actually 3% plus the 1% city levy? Can we expect another 4% + in 2025? @JustinTrudeau@fordnation

Paul Newman in Washington where Dr. King delivered his ‘I Have a Dream Speech’ August 28, 1963. Paul Newman was not only a Hollywood super star, but a philanthropist and way-ahead-of-his-time activist.
He was fighting against big oil companies and sounding the alarm on pollution and global warming waaay back in the 1970s. He'd been an outspoken advocate for gay-rights in the 70s and 80s. Being listed as one of Nixon's "enemies" was a badge of honor for him when he protested the Vietnam War.
He refused to take any profits from his salad dressing company, and instead donated 100% of all proceeds, giving millions of dollars to charities ranging from student scholarships, to environmental causes, and aid to refugees.
He supported Martin Luther King Jr. and the civil rights movement, and was basically all about helping less fortunate people his whole life. Paul Newman was a a real life super hero and a role model for all of us. Also very handsome.
In 1943, Paul Newman enlisted in the Navy, joining the V-12 program to become a pilot. But when he was discovered to be colorblind, he was sent to basic training where he became a rear-seat radioman and gunner for torpedo bombers.
In May 1945, his unit was assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Bunker Hill. But the pilot developed an earache and another crew was sent in their place.
A few days later kamikaze planes attacked Bunker Hill, killing almost 400 onboard. "When you miss something like that because your pilot happened to have an earache..wow!" Paul recalled. "You can't say God is looking after you because He gave your pilot an earache but put the 15 other guys in coffins!"
A cellphone ban could be coming to #TDSB schools. Unauthorized use of smartphones is one of the biggest challenges in the classroom because teachers are dealing with distractions, disruptions, and loss of focus. #onted#cdned#edchat

I don't know what you want us nurses to do for you if you enabled Doug Ford's decimation of public health by voting for him. Now you want nurses to magically fast-forward your 12 hours ER wait time, when you had a chance to vote?
Try again! My shift is 12hours long and I promise to care for you with all my heart within those long 12 hours. Stop disrespecting nurses while you wait. Next time, take your anger to the polls.
Stephen Harper said his government "had no obligations to 🇨🇦's veterans, whatsoever."
Now, an even more sinister Stephen Harper runs a fascist organization (The IDU) which has no obligations to 🇨🇦, whatsoever.

JUST IN: Jonathan Lewis, a teenage boy who was beaten up by 15 students at a high school in Las Vegas, Nevada had died.
Throw them all in prison for life.
According to the boy's father, the brutal beating happened after 17 year old Jonathan Lewis stood up for one of his "smaller friends."
"A couple (of kids) attacked him, and they weren’t able to hurt him enough, and they all attacked him at once," the father, Jonathan Lewis said.
In an emotional interview with a local news station, Lewis' father remembered his son, saying he was a quiet kid and they had plans to move to Austin, Texas together.
"I just love my children with all my heart, and it’s just unimaginable that we could ever come to this point," Lewis, said.
"I think there’s just a failure of all of humanity to recognize that we need to be teaching our youth how to coexist."
Lewis had kept his son on life support hoping for a miracle.
Lewis was an artist and was considering joining the United States Navy like his grandfather.
Devastating.
I hope #osstf does well in arbitration. I feel they will secure financial gains. My concern is how districts will fare. Will districts with superior local agreements suffer strips? My local #etfo suffered losses when we transitioned to central bargaining. Time will tell. #onted
@ETFOeducators My Toronto daughter has 36 kids in her Kindie class this year, mostly JK so 36 3 and 4 year olds, some special needs. Even with an ECE that’s too many!
More funding for public education means hiring MORE teachers to lower class sizes, not necessarily more money for educators.
For #OntEd workers, arb is no sub for the RIGHT TO STRIKE, b/c it:
1️⃣ demobilizes unions
2️⃣ can increase the prevalence of impasses
3️⃣ is an inherently conservative process
4️⃣ is predicated on one union free-loading off the fight & wins of others.
Brilliant piece. #OnLab#ETFO
Fred Penner and Mr. Dressup is a pretty great crossover, but the story behind it carries some tragedy.
About two weeks before he was to appear on Fred Penner's Place in 1992, Ernie Coombs' wife Marlene was struck & killed by a car while she was out shopping in Toronto.
Penner contacted Coombs and told him that it was okay if he cancelled the shows or rebooked.
Coombs said no. He and his wife had talked about it before she died and he wanted to be on the show.
"The energy that the crew gave him, when he came on set, was overwhelming to say the least," Penner said.
They did two shows. At the end of the second show, a song was scheduled called "Together, Tomorrow"
Penner and Coombs sat on the log on the set getting ready to say goodbye to the audience with that song at the end of the second show.
Penner stated that the song became about Ernie and his wife and both he and Ernie were on the brink of tears while singing the song.
"That was absolutely the most beautiful and most intense moment I ever had on the series," Penner said.

So @Sflecce's big plan for literacy and numeracy involves creating new "coaching" positions. Surely this will involve removing current classroom teachers to fill these new roles. Where will the replacement teachers come from or will class sizes have to increase? #onted
