The @nytimes article confirms a growing reality: the UAE has increasingly positioned itself as a destabilising actor, backing militias and proxy non-state actors to expand its influence regardless of the consequences. From Sudan to Yemen, this approach has drawn mounting scrutiny, and claims of fighting "Islamists" lose credibility when militias accused of atrocities and genocide are being supported. Saudi Arabia’s public pushback, along with U.S. officials explicitly rejecting Abu Dhabi’s claim that Riyadh asked Trump to sanction the UAE, further exposes the weakness of Abu Dhabi’s narrative. Rather than projecting stability, the UAE is increasingly seen as immature, opportunistic, and unreliable.
Sen. @LindseyGrahamSC 🇺🇸 said, "we want the Middle East to be like the UAE 🇦🇪." Does that mean:
• Supporting genocidal actors in Sudan?
• Enabling Iranian backed Houthi networks?
• Ignoring @USTreasury terror lists?
• Hiring mercenaries from Colombia?
• Deepening trade with Iran?
• Using secret prisons and torture?
• Fooling Americans?
Be specific, Senator. You don't really want the region to be like the UAE. If what you really mean is "join the Abraham Accords," then say it clearly. The response will be simple: Saudi Arabia is not a lightweight like the UAE. It is the birthplace of Islam and the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, and it will not join the Abraham Accords without addressing Palestinian self determination rights. Period.
A nuanced, objective, and balanced op-ed about Saudi Arabia🇸🇦 by two Americans🇺🇸.

Senator @LindseyGrahamSC 🇺🇸 assessment is fundamentally misguided and risks escalating tensions rather than resolving them. The Abraham Accords are unrelated to the Saudi 🇸🇦-UAE 🇦🇪 dispute; linking Saudi scrutiny of Abu Dhabi to Israel is both inaccurate and inflammatory, as it falsely implies that Emirati policies are merely Israeli proxies.
The core issue, as highlighted by interviewer @_HadleyGamble, lies in the UAE’s widely criticized support for destabilizing actors, including Yemen’s Southern Transitional Council (STC), whose territorial ambitions threaten Yemen’s unity and Saudi Arabia's security, and Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which have faced serious allegations of atrocities in places such as El Fasher.
If Senator Graham is genuinely interested in de-escalation, he should instead urge Emirati counterparts to address @USTreasury concerns regarding UAE based networks facilitating Houthi oil smuggling, weapons procurement, and illicit financial flows. Effective diplomacy requires precision, evidence based dialogue, and an end to false equivalences.
Saudi Arabia rejects patronizing rhetoric. Respect others if you expect to be respected. Period.
That is ten times less than the stolen gold. Such donations will not prevent accountability before the International Criminal Court (ICC), especially while the UAE 🇦🇪 continues to smuggle weapons, explosives, and Colombian mercenaries to its failing genocidal RSF militia.
By your twisted logic, are you suggesting that Abu Dhabi's government and the people of the UAE 🇦🇪 are also Nazis and antisemites? Such language inflames tensions and undermines the serious work of combating antisemitism. Antisemitism should be fought, not exploited to serve Abu Dhabi's reckless and immature regional agendas.
That is a positive step. Abu Dhabi 🇦🇪 should "willingly" replicate such efforts in the Middle East, not necessarily by mediating peace, but at least by halting the arming, funding, and support of the RSF militia in Sudan 🇸, which has perpetrated genocide, mass rape, and atrocities against innocent civilians in Al-Fasher; second, ending its support for terrorism in Yemen 🇾🇪 through its fugitive STC militia leader; third, dismantling Iranian terror financing networks operating inside the UAE that have been sanctioned by the U.S. 🇺🇸 Treasury Department. Only then can the Russia 🇷🇺 - Ukraine 🇺🇦 brokerage be regarded as a genuine peace move rather than a whitewashing stunt.
