"This tells us exactly how out of touch with reality they are"
@GretaThunberg calls on UK government to halt consideration of Rosebank oil field development. The government said they 'respect the right to protest' but a transition to non-fossil energy 'cannot happen overnight'.
When people understand that they’re not alone in their fears and that actually most people share their concerns, that’s when the majority starts to realise its own #power.
#IPCC reports and many other institutional efforts are overly conservative.
We can no longer lie about the gravity of our situation. Most people would rather hear the truth, especially if gets us moving towards: what can we do together?

“Let’s mobilise on war footing, that’s what is needed.”
Former Shadow Energy Secretary Barry Gardner says climate change is a war for survival and needs to be treated as such.

"You have to be on the right side of history."
@GretaThunberg speaks exclusively to @Channel4News to make a plea to British politicians as she warns this summer's heatwaves are the beginning of a "rapidly escalating existential crisis" of climate.
Most people see 20mph as the right speed limit for residential areas. Beware of pluralist ignorance supressing the vocalisation of support and giving more weight to the views of noisy opposers. 20s coming and making our places better places to be.

@WestMerciaPCC @JohnPaulCampion @WMerciaPolice Road safety is an antisocial behaviour issue and should be top priority as it is a threat to life and health. Please enforce 20 mph limits (and all restrictions) effectively. Drugs are a social issue and should not be policed to the extent that victims become criminals.
It turns out the police officer who arrested and handcuffed an innocent woman (in front of her child) over a £1.75 bus fare actually called her a "daft cow". The @metpoliceuk statement said the woman got "abusive". The tape shows otherwise.
@SadiqKhan this is unacceptable.
Without bold action, the fires in southern Europe will become the new norm.
So will the fires, floods, droughts, smog and crop failures in the Global South that our media largely ignores.
Those who sneer at radical change are letting our planet die.
It's time to fight back.
Banning Asylum Seekers from working for up to 6 years while only giving them £5 a day to live on is a crime against humanity.
And the only reason it is done is so they can be blamed for being lazy.
Let them work.
This woman, who is being arrested for fare evasion, had paid her bus fare. Met police in the thread below suggesting it “looks concerning” but there’s a wider context appears to be doubling down on their part, when an apology would be the sensible option.
A woman is placed in handcuffs and manhandled by two police officers, a needless fiasco which left her infant son severely distressed… all over a lousy £1.75 bus fare. And it looks like she was entirely innocent.
@SadiqKhan this is unacceptable.
