@Circusbirdboy48@J_Onaka What I mean is that each NTT era character has remained great on their own, but there’s a curse involved with putting them together that I suspect might be caused by that attempt to retrofit, or any number of other poor characterizations over the years.
@Circusbirdboy48@J_Onaka …the ripple effects of the cartoon on the newer generation characters — particularly when they’re *together* on a team called *the Titans*, as opposed to Victor or Kory or whomever on their own — has made all subsequent takes a lot worse.
@DlCKSGF And this holds for everything. As a new Batman reader, for instance, there were a ton of plot lines with villains I just thought were cool and addressed concepts I liked. But then you come back and realize something was a reference to a Bronze Age story or an old rogue? Mwah.
@DlCKSGF Have to disagree. That’s how I started.
I agree that context makes things better, but actually the experience of finding initial enjoyment coming in blind and THEN coming back and having my mind blown with all the new context I knew was incredible.
@ontheground136 t’s impossible to say, but I am more than suspicious about both the use of “____; not _____” and how every comment has at least one, sometimes two, m-dashes. Either it’s AI or this person uses it so much they’ve adopted its linguistic quirks 🤷
@ontheground136 And also it’s fiction? None of this is real??So if someone *can* justify a viewpoint from the text, who cares whether you think it’s the right one??? There isn’t an objective series of events we can draw from, but 4 decades of contradicting takes from various creators’ minds????
@ontheground136 Sorry bout that, man.
I also think, unless it is literally depicted in THE CORE PAGES of the comic (and sometimes even then), it’s valid to draw upon whatever vagueness exists to make a plot more interesting. Comic writers do it all the time when making new arcs.
@basmaTgirl@_probka I’d hope you try to verge on the side of being well-mannered, then.
Again, I don’t think we’ll get anywhere, and I fundamentally disagree, but I appreciate you taking the time to talk it out. Hopefully neither of our mindsets ever come to bite us, lol.
@basmaTgirl@_probka “You should not be allowed to be a complete bad mannered asshole with punctuality”
Also agreed, which is what these deadlines accomplish. There has to be a hard deadline eventually or “punctuality” is meaningless. How do you define what is bad manners if there was no deadline?
@basmaTgirl@_probka Fair enough. There’s no way I can argue if you *do not believe in my work experiences* because you consider your academic research fellowship to be reflective of *all* career dynamics.
But, as an academic, I would hope you’d be aware of existential versus universal quantifiers.
@basmaTgirl@_probka Sure. Agreed. But if school is meant to teach life skills, which I’m always hearing people complain about it not accomplishing, then maybe beginning to reinforce the importance of punctuality before it has real lasting ramifications is a good thing.
@basmaTgirl@_probka A) At no point in your original comment did you qualify your statement with the timing. I was addressing your statement about deadlines as you said it.
B) Not always. This depends on what field you work in.
@basmaTgirl@_probka Granted, taking this to the extreme is not good either. I would rather delay a meeting than have *nothing*. But I would rather be slightly less sure during a discussion and clarify this than miss the only 30 minutes I could have to approve what I’m doing for the next 3 weeks.
@basmaTgirl@_probka I work in an environment where it is very hard to get peoples’ time. If I schedule something with them, missing this opportunity is worse than needing to clarify that I’m not sure about something but will follow up on Slack about it. I can still get 95% of what I need done.
@basmaTgirl@_probka We complain about education not teaching applicable skills, but I can assure you that if you turn in your pitch deck late for a client at your job, it will be infinitely worse than glossing over a minor spelling error on a slide.
@ontheground136 Agreed, both on your point and some other stuff (DEFINITELY PRE-CRISIS NIGHTWING ORIGINAL OVER POST-CRISIS. The firing and contrivance of a bad relationship between Bruce and Dick was ridiculous.)
