The quest to capture a leprechaun led to the creation of maps to lead him to our school. We discussed our community and included many different natural and built structures.
An interest in Pokémon is inspiring different writing forms including labelling the characters in our drawings, writing stories and taking surveys about our favourite Pokémon.
Thank you @MrsMacsKinders for sharing this! We were inspired by our interests and what makes us unique and special to plan and design outfits that makes us feel happy!!
We have been interested in giving cards to our friends and family. We discussed different reasons to write a card for someone and brainstormed kind messages to record inside.
After reading the book “Count on Me,” students used their math journals to record the math they noticed all around them. This brought about great discussions on numbers, patterns and shapes!
We put our technological problem solving skills to work with this challenge inspired by the book, “Iggy Peck Architect.” Students planned, built, revised and shared their bridge structures to get the people safely across the water.
An interest in pirate ships and maps has developed. Many students created their own maps today. Some even added binoculars and telescopes to help them look for clues.
We loved reading the book “Library Mouse.” There have been many authors in Room 16 who are writing about what they know using classroom resources. A few students even collaborated to build a home for Sam the Library Mouse because they thought he might be in our classroom.
This week we learned that sorting is putting things together that are the same. We read “The Button Box and then came up with our own ways to sort our own box of buttons. Can you guess our sorting rules?
We continue to learn about lines this week. We participated in a line obstacle course and learned about the curves and straight lines we can use to draw Mat Man.
We have been exploring lines using various hands on materials and activities. Learning the names and practising drawing different types of lines, helps us to draw pictures and form letters and numbers.
As we continue to build our classroom community and develop our classroom agreement, we read the book, “Our Class is A Family.” We discussed what it means to be a family. Students shared rules that they have to keep them safe and happy in their home and school communities.
Thank you @missEmcbride for the idea of using plan books! Students have been busy recording their ideas and then selecting the tools they need to create and bring their plans to life. Technological problem solving happens everyday.
We have been very interested in learning new ways to play with Hula Hoops in Room 16. Today used a number line to see how long we could role our Hula Hoops and some students began creating their own Hula Hoop obstacle course.
We are extending our learning of marble tracks by trying them out with LEGO. We’ve added tunnels, ramps and signs to show where the marble starts and finishes.
