@sejjil99@tankwycheck@Angelbane1194@irilturel okay thank you for admitting that you’re opposed to criticism in general, this is a position so obviously self-defeating that I don’t think it’s necessary to argue further
@mike_slugs yeah revolutionary armies are often a strange mix of kinda voluntary and extremely compulsory. the Russian Civil War-era Red Army was basically seasonal: desertion hit infinity percent during the harvest and then guys would just come back in winter and get a slap on the wrist
@notenoughranch@dtia994@NATO@CroatiaNato@MFA_Croatia but the actual joke here is the sexual connotation, though. the double entendre is the joke.
like I’m not fully on the other person’s side in this argument but “people scream when they’re shot” isn’t a joke
@nise_yoshimi maybe the most annoying thing about there being ~40 seconds dedicated to handling butcher after homelander is that there’s so much wealth to be mined out of the fact that there isn’t really a butcher after homelander’s gone. it’s like if Ahab actually got the whale.
@deltaIV9250 well, Ukrainian-born Russian figures are pretty distinctly not Ukrainian. my understanding is that like most white generals Drozdovsky believed in absolute unity of the empire, didn’t believe Ukrainians were real, and wanted to reconquer everything that broke off in 1917
@akshayanands@nise_yoshimi isn’t this assuming that the Douhet style “collapse of morale, surrender” is the only value an air campaign can have?
the WW2 bombing campaigns could never have won the war single-handedly, but they did significant damage, and diverted tons of men + materiel from the front
@postoctobrist delightful dynamics to all the allied interventionists in the russian civil war. the Americans hate everyone, the French are going “mon dieu, les poilus are embracing le socialisme” and the Brits are saying “churchill’s a good chap he’ll get Cabinet to send us 1 million more men”
@van_milder_us@RegularSanStan@SaadInCyber do you think the claim is that settlers are moving in without government support? “how do you get your name on the utilities” the same way you would in any other case, because the law says you’re the resident?
@Asmallnotch@PunishedFredda@The_Davos_Man obviously Poland’s economy was also deep in the shitter and they’d suffered badly during the war, but they at least had access to international aid and markets
@Asmallnotch@PunishedFredda@The_Davos_Man i mean you gotta admit the gap was about as wide as you can imagine. the RSFSR circa 1920 has what, like, 1/10th of pre-war industrial production? less? it’s basically dropped out of modernity altogether. every summer half the army deserted to go harvest the crops.
@Asmallnotch@PunishedFredda@The_Davos_Man yeah people love pulling out the “Asiatic hordes” line because they understand that trading casualties 1 for 1 with an agrarian society looks pretty embarrassing, especially when they’ve spent two years annihilating themselves with civil war and war communism
@gamergate2077 the national questions during the RCW really are fascinating. the Bolsheviks are doing their level best to bungle it but they just can’t help but win a minor victory by default when the opposition’s Denikin and Kolchak
@gamergate2077 always fun when someone’s like “I don’t understand, why didn’t the Poles attack in 1919 when the Reds were on the ropes?”
because every nationalist leader understood that the Red Army was extremely convenient ablative armor against “Great Russia, United and Indivisable”
