Since school is starting soon and you'll be interacting with more people take a test to see how much bias you have. Check and see if you've made any progress this summer. https://t.co/92aLcVYRxd
"I really don't understand what they're saying." You're both speaking the same language. The only reason you think you don't is because you have bias in your ears. Take it out before it spreads to your mind. There's no need to microaggress anyone for anything.
Microaggressions may seem irrelevant to other problems, but they're still important. Changing people's perspectives on microaggressions goes a longer way than you think. Solving the small stuff leads us closer to solving the big stuff.
The impact of your words and actions matter. They matter more than your intent. It's so easy to hurt and insult others when you're not paying attention. Especially when interacting with others who have different experiences from your own.
Schools need to provide an environment where everyone feels welcome. However, people who don't conform to the "norm" at most schools, don’t always feel included or welcome. These unreasonable situations placed upon students are unjustified and must be stopped!
"Why can't you take a joke?" If you find yourself saying that often, it's obviously not a joke one to the person you're talking to. A joke is intended for the person receiving it, not the other way around. A microaggression is no joke.
You can't make all microaggressions disappear. A microaggression is just another form of a person's bias. However, by spreading awareness we are able to minimize the effects of microaggressions.
Did you know microaggressions produce cognitive, physiological, and emotional effects? When a person receives a comment that is undermining, the brain releases a chemical similar to when the body feels physical pain. Experiencing social rejection repeatedly stresses our bodies.
If you see something, say something. This applies to what you hear too. Staying silent is not helpful. A microaggression can be stopped. All you need to do is speak up.

Even if it's a joke we can still get hurt. It's as if a little piece of you just gets pricked by a needle. And sometimes that needle stays. It's a shame that we can't be honest about these daily microaggressions that affect us.

When a girl says no, it means no. You should never have to ask a male to validate a women's words. Not only is it microaggressional but it is also ignorant.

A microaggression doesn't just go against one race or even a specific race. We all go through them and say nothing because "it's just a joke."
