3 Short eared owls and 3 Red kites in the air together over @The_HOEF on my dog walk near Pebworth this morning. Unfortunately no camera. @WorcsBirding
We were joined by @MacvieSam to gain experience monitoring farmland birds. He started with a treat, ringing a lovely Short-eared Owl and then a Corn Bunting. Several Yellowhammers including two at 3 years old meant we could do a workshop on ageing and sexing them.
Counters are still needed for the Winter Gull Survey, including at sites like the Bittell Reservoirs. If you are interested in helping out, please visit the page below 👇
Finally found a Purple Emperor caterpillar using the ‘dangly leaf’ technique. Before hibernating the caterpillar secures it’s leaf with silk causing it to dangle on a silken thread instead of falling indicating a caterpillar nearby. @MatthewOates76 @HantsIoWBC
@HarbirdRichard @The_HOEF I was down there on Thursday, thought I saw a couple of Wheatears on the new tree tubes but couldn't be sure at the time... was way too hot to follow them then too!
Bittell Res on 50 after a delayed start. Highlights being Firecrest, Greenshank, GBBG, Ringed Plover and Pintail. #WestMidsAllDayer @WorcsBirding. Firecrest on private land and not seen for an hour.
A quick outing around some local sites in North-East Worcs this morning, logging breeding activity ahead of the expected rain. Hoping that the Spotted Flycatchers stay hidden from Corvids and fledge from this nest box I built for them. #WorcsBirds
