Great winter weather number practice: A mitten match game challenges students to pair numerals with quantity https://t.co/ghrwrBfoIt Making a string with paper clips on either end also gives preschoolers fine motor practice to physically connect matches #TEACHers#Mathematics
Email: since you missed the training (note: I was in another meeting), here is the power point and recording of what you missed. Please watch and complete the survey by Monday. Also don’t forget to take time for yourself and practice self care 😆 🙄 😑 #PandemicEducation
We got the beat! State or show a number. Students tap that many times, counting out loud to check (and work on one-to-one). Then switch! Teacher taps and students must count and hold up the number card
Arrows cards are awesome for 2nd-4th graders who are struggling to visualize place value but kinders stuck on those tricky teen numbers could benefit from seeing how double digits numbers follow a pattern
After reading Dora’s Eggs, cut an egg carton to make a 10-frame. Students roll a die and show that many with pompoms (or plastic eggs). Teacher can reveal answer by opening the lid to their carton. What are your go-to 10-frame lessons?
A matrix combines sorting skills with problem solving. Intro vocab words: column and row with whole body movements (we made them into a dance). Cover an insect and students must figure out which big is missing 🐜 🐛 🕷 🐞 🐝
We started sorting concepts with PreK this week. 😱. Virtually. 😱😱!! I held up my laundry basket and talked about sorting laundry. Then we sorted out class by shirt color. They got it!
Experiments keep students engaged during NTI. And retelling the steps allows them to use new vocabulary and time transition words such as “before,” “next,” and “after” #ExplodingWatermelons#RainbowVolcanoes#IvorySoapSoufflé
Virtual learning with PreK has been challenging BUT manipulatives are saving us! Students placed their number cards in order, then I covered one on the screen and we counted to find the missing number 💗 visual + verbal + tactile= winner! 🏆
Virtual Learning with PreK: a bag of popsicle sticks went home with each student. These sticks are great for sorting colors, building letters, or making patterns. This week, students create 2D shapes with their sticks. Count the sides and sticks for extra number practice
Mystery pictures were a huge hit this week! Start with the objective shape (we started with circles) and slowly add details to reveal a picture. Students can then practice drawing the shape (and add the details to match the mystery picture). Can you guess what this circle became?
PreK LOVED searching for treasure w/ positional words. Virtually, hide a chest in a scene. Students must find and describe its location with new vocab: in, on, beside, between, under. In person, give students gold coins to hid in the room and use positional words to give clues
#PreK math: patterns with your body combines math and gross motor. Clap, stomp, clap, stomp, clap, what comes next? Tap your nose, touch your toes, and repeat! Gab instruments to add another layer to the music ;) https://t.co/zhaAQ32mqF
Make your own number rubbings for #PreschoolMathCenters. Cut cardboard squares and use school glue that dries clear to “write” numbers and groups of dots. Challenge higher level students by putting dots and numeral cards on separate cards. Students work to match cards
