What if half of today’s onion and chili post-harvest losses could be eliminated?
NAEB is turning that vision into action through Smart Food Value Chain Management Project by constructing One National and Four Local Post-Harvest Centers dedicated to onions and chili.
Strategically located in @CityofKigali , @RubavuDistrict , @rulindodistrict , @BugeseraDistr , and @NyagatareDistr ; these facilities will be curing 120 tons of onions and drying 79 tons of chili within 48 hours.
Expected loss reduction:
🧅 Onions: 15.4% ➝ 7.7%
🌶 Chili: 17.2% ➝ 8.7%
This milestone underscores NAEB’s commitment to strengthening Rwanda’s agri-export sector through enhanced efficiency, quality, greater global competitiveness and boosted farmers’ income.

During the launch, NAEB’s COO @Sanurujeni emphasized the importance of proactively aligning Rwanda’s coffee sector with evolving EU sustainability regulations to maintain access to its key export market.
She noted that the introduction of the EUDR and CSDDD signals a transformative shift in global trade, placing sustainability, traceability, and due diligence at the heart of international commerce.
While these requirements present significant compliance obligations, they also offer Rwanda a timely opportunity to enhance transparency, reinforce environmental stewardship, and further position its coffee as a premium, responsibly produced product on the global stage.
Today, NAEB with partners officially launched the Roadmap for Aligning Rwanda’s Coffee Sector with the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD).
With Europe accounting for over 61% of Rwanda’s coffee exports, this roadmap marks a strategic milestone in safeguarding market access while strengthening sustainability, traceability, and responsible business conduct across the coffee value chain.
For the fifth time, #Rwanda is participating in the #Paris International Agricultural Show (#SIA) held annually in Paris, France. The nine-day trade fair is expected to attract more than 600,000 visitors.
Hosted at the Paris Expo–Porte de Versailles, the exhibition runs from late February to early March each year, showcasing agricultural and livestock products, related value chains, farming technologies, partnerships, and innovation.
The 2026 edition opened on Saturday, February 21, and was officially inaugurated by French President Emmanuel Macron.
Rwanda is exhibiting at Stand 7, highlighting its progress in developing export-oriented agricultural and livestock products. The country is represented by the National Agricultural Export Development Board (#NAEB) and the Embassy of Rwanda in #France.

Today, NAEB received @IFAD consultants for an opening meeting to kick off a two-week Mid-Term Review (MTR) mission to evaluate the implementation of #PSAC Project, implemented by NAEB. After two years of implementation, PSAC has delivered commendable results on the ground, including:
✅ Over 12 million tea, coffee, and horticultural seedlings produced and distributed to farmers for planting across 14 Districts where the project operates
✅ Creation of jobs worth over FRW 2 billion for more than 4,500 women and youth, organized into 250 community groups producing seedlings.
✅ Support to Rwandan exporters to participate in world-class exhibitions to showcase Rwanda’s premium agri-export products and expand markets.
As the project runs through 2029, more transformational initiatives are underway:
➡️ Approximately FRW 2.5 billion in Matching Grants for farmers, cooperatives, and exporters for climate-smart investments.
➡️ Farmer Field Schools (FFS) across targeted value chains.
➡️ Provision of agri-export infrastructure and equipment to enhance productivity.
This Mid-Term Review is a timely opportunity to reflect on progress, refine strategies, and accelerate delivery—building on strong foundations to deepen impact and ensure sustainable agri-export competitiveness for Rwanda.
