Senator Sarah Hanson-Young on the ‘Social Media Minimum Age’ bill:
“The reason this bill is being rushed without scrutiny is because both the Leader of the Opposition, Peter Dutton and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese are worried that if people really knew what the consequences of this bill mean, they wouldn’t support it.”
🚨BREAKING: These are the MP’s that voted for “social media platforms to require an individual to produce identification documents for the purposes of verifying the individual’s age.
2 Liberal party traitors.
🚨UPDATE: Lidia Thorpe has been barred from entering the Senate chamber for the remainder of this week's parliamentary session, effectively preventing her from participating in the vote on the 'Social Media Minimum Age' bill.
Oh @SenatorThorpe why do this today????
🚨UPDATE: Lidia Thorpe has been barred from entering the Senate chamber for the remainder of this week's parliamentary session, effectively preventing her from participating in the vote on the 'Social Media Minimum Age' bill.
Furthermore, the government has decided to postpone the final vote on ratifying the bill into law until tomorrow.
I don’t support banning under 16s from social media for a range of reasons, but the time allowed for this Bill to be properly considered is unworkable.
We first saw the Bill last Thursday when it was sent to a Senate hearing. The hearing was held yesterday and the report is due today.
I discussed the Bill with Chris Kenny on Sky News last night.

The Liberal Party of Australia have wandered so far from their roots, they’re unrecognisable.
The people have spoken loud and clear and you still did this? You still used our kids as leverage!
We won’t forget this @PeterDutton_MP@LiberalAus#electionissue25
🚨Jenny McAllister, representing the Department of Communications has acknowledged that they do NOT have the support required to pass the Misinformation bill— and it has now been formally withdrawn from the government agenda.
The Albanese regime have made the MAD Bill the first ‘Order of the Day’ for Government Business in the Senate on Monday.

I‘m a bit surprised by this, as normally they wouldn’t bring it on for a vote to avoid the humiliation of losing the vote on the floor of the Senate.
But one thing we know about this Labor Government is that they are as cunning and as sneaky as a sewer rat.
One possibility I didn’t consider was that the Liberals and Nationals would not turn up for the vote and abstain - as the Bill was originally their idea and their opposition to it has been fake.
I’m sure the Liberals would have thought the Bill would have passed the Senate and become law (maybe what they wanted) as it was a long shot that enough Independent Senators would crack under the pressure from the public to have enough votes to defeat it.
This way the Bill would pass 25 v. 21 with Labor having 25 votes and those that said they would vote against it (excluding the Liberals) 21 votes.
With the 21 votes being;
2 X One Nation
1 x UAP (Ralph Babet)
1 x Lambie
6 x Independents
11 x Greens.
Surely the Liberals wouldn’t pull this stunt.
But given they are holding hands with Labor on the Social Media Age Verification Bill, the Liberals can’t be trusted and anything is possible.
But we’ll know around 11am on Monday.
Stay tuned.
Two major parties are teaming up to monitor everything you do on the internet.
So much for serving the people.,
To them it’s all about control. #auspol
Australians have successfully defeated the Albanese Labor governments plan to legislate racism via the Voice to Parliament, and censorship via the Misinformation Bill. Now its time for the hat-trick and end the introduction of forced digital identity via stealth with their Under 16 Social Media Ban.
For years, I’ve been warning Australians about Digital ID’s and the dangerous path it will take us down. It’s not just a “secure” and “convenient” way to verify online—it’s a framework for a permanent digital identity system that threatens your privacy and freedom.
If this social media ban is passed, this could become the foundation for something chillingly similar to China’s Social Credit System.
Do we really want a government with that much control over our lives?
It’s time to push back before it’s too late.
Albanese’s ‘Misinformation Bill’ is dead. Not because they realised their outrageous attack on free speech was wrong, but because they don’t have the numbers to ram the bill through the Senate.
Well done to all Australians who helped kill off this Orwellian attempt to control what we can say.
Thank you for everyone's comments on the social media ban bill in reply to my post yesterday ... I have read through them all and replied to many.
I have heard loud and clear the concerns about digital ID and the role of the eSafety Commissioner.
I am working on amendments to ban the use of digital IDs for age-verification purposes.
On the eSafety Commissioner, her guidelines will be non-binding but I still do not like her rules not being accountable to Parliament. It is also interesting to note that the eSafety Commissioner effectively opposed age verification for minors in a submission to Parliament a few months ago (see attached picture).
Also, thank you to those who raised the v good point about how some kids with learning difficulties or disabilities get so much benefit from social media. I had not thought of that. There is ZERO mention of these kids in the Bill or EM. That should be fixed.
Thank you again and I will try to do my best to monitor comments in coming days.
