πΆ Now playing: Red Hot Chili Peppers, One Hot Minute
What a shift after Blood Sugar Sex Magik. BSSM was raw, funky, and sun-baked, with Frusciante's tight, melodic guitar. Then Frusciante left, Dave Navarro came in from Jane's Addiction, and the band went somewhere darker. One Hot Minute is heavier and moodier, with a psychedelic, almost metal edge. Songs like "Warped" and "Shallow Be Thy Game" feel like a different band, and "My Friends" and "Aeroplane" show a softer, more reflective side.
It's the black sheep of their catalog, but I think it's underrated.

Now playing: Prince and The Revolution, Parade. πΆ
Funky, strange, and effortlessly cool. Every track on this one sounds like Prince was daring himself to try something new. Turn it up and let it play start to finish.

Now playing: Nine Inch Nails, Broken. π
Twenty-some minutes of pure aggression and noise, and it still hits harder than most full albums. Some records you just have to play loud.

πΆ Now playing: Peter Gabriel, Peter Gabriel (aka "Melt") πΆ
Dark, experimental, and endlessly inventive. Gated drums, haunting textures, and "Intruder" and "Biko" still hit like nothing else. Put on the headphones and get lost in it. π§

πΆ Now playing: Kansas, Monolith πΆ
Prog-rock grit from the heartland. Soaring harmonies, big riffs, and "People of the South Wind" still sounds incredible. Turn it up. π

πΆ Now playing: David Bowie, Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps) πΆ
Pure art-rock brilliance. Angular guitars, jagged synths, and a Bowie at the height of his reinvention. "Ashes to Ashes" still gives me chills every single time. π

Now Playing: Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Murder Ballads πΆπ€
Dark, dramatic, and beautifully unsettling. Nothing sets the mood quite like Nick Cave telling a story you can't look away from.

Continuing my audio journey down memory lane... I'm now playing The Carpenters, The Singles 1968-1973. πΆ
Karen Carpenter had one of my favorite voices. Every time I hear a Carpenters song, I'm a little boy again. Fall days and grammar school.
Mom in the kitchen cooking dinner. The smells of home. A small black and white TV on the counter, Sesame Street on PBS. Backyard forts and imaginations full of dragons to slay, and our Shogun Warrior Godzilla and Rodan squaring off in the ultimate creature double feature.
Hold onto your days. Live in the moment. Life only moves forward, and there is no rewind.
Be gentle with each other. Try to see both sides of the argument. Love is more powerful than hate. Ignorance is just an opportunity to learn and grow.
