As soon as we are recognised as having the right to external self-determination UDI becomes realistic - no ‘contested status’ at the UN but rather automatic recognition. In fact it’s hard to see how any declaration of independence would be possible except by unilateral declaration. It’s only a question of establishing our real status according to international law and of demolishing the U.K.’s much repeated claim to territorial integrity as a lawful unitary state.
