@gerryconway There's an impressive rejoinder to this nonsense in Rambo and the Dalai Lama by Gordon Fellman. At the time Fellman wrote it, it was an answer to a question that had barely been asked. I wish he'd reissue it now.

About 60 years ago a guy named Robert White flew an X-15 to the 50-mile mark and President Kennedy gave him the same astronaut wings. Because those are the rules around here.
