When authors tell me they have an offer of representation, my tendency is to believe them. It's frustrating to find that trust taken advantage of.

I know that querying is difficult—impossibly so, at times—and I don't take that lightly. Authors work so hard. And, you're entering into a business relationship. I don't recommend starting that relationship with a lie, even a small one.
