Pakistani security forces opened fire on demonstrators near Rawalakot in Pakistan-administered Kashmir this week, with organizers reporting dozens killed as tens of thousands attempted a long march toward the regional capital, Muzaffarabad.

At least 30 people were killed over two days, 25 on Monday and five on Tuesday, according to the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), the civil society group leading more than 50 days of protests over electoral reform and detained activists. The Guardian said it could not independently verify the toll, as media were barred from the area and an internet blackout remained in place.

Organizers say forces fired on unarmed marchers without warning; police say armed protesters fired first, killing a paramilitary Ranger. JAAC says security forces later removed bodies from streets and hospitals in Mirpur to conceal the killings.

A resident who reached Islamabad told Drop Site that Rangers had raided homes and forced women at gunpoint to cook for them. Amnesty International has called on Pakistan to lift the communications blackout.

We have been informed that my father, Imran Khan, has lost most of the vision in his right eye, with reports indicating only 15% eyesight remains. This is the direct consequence of 922 days of solitary confinement, medical neglect (denied blood tests) and the deliberate denial of proper treatment in jail.

The responsibility lies squarely with the regime in power, the Army Chief and the puppets enabling this cruelty. This physical deterioration is happening under their orders, their watch and their responsibility. They have manipulated and warped the justice system in order to keep my father in solitary confinement.

🚨🇵🇰 IMRAN KHAN CRACKDOWN: PAKISTANI ACTIVIST RELEASED FROM MILITARY CUSTODY, CAN'T WALK OR TALK

Samiullah Wazir was released from military custody early Jan, wheelchair-bound and unable to walk properly. He was one of 7 PTI activists released from Peshawar Central Prison after serving 19 months.

National Assembly member Mohsin Dawar visited him at Hayatabad Medical Complex and said 18 months of military custody and torture left him with memory loss and senselessness. PTI claims he now suffers from a ruptured colon, severe hearing loss, and mental instability.

Wazir describes being hung upside down and having hornets released onto him while begging to be let go.

He was convicted by military court for attacking military installations in Bannu during May 9 riots.

He is unable to stand or speak coherently, and is not able to recognize people.

This is inline with multiple torture allegations in the hands of the military since Imran Khan’s arrest and the crackdown on his political party.

This extradition process is a mockery by the Government of Pakistan, a country that has itself been added to a global watchlist for its "repressed" civic space. The 2025 listing cites the government's crackdown on dissent, criminalization of activists, suppression of protests, and increasing restrictions on digital freedoms.
