Dalia Mohammed, 23, is married and lives with her husband and their two children, including Ahmed, who is one and a half years old, and their newborn second child, whom Dalia has just given birth to. The family currently rents a single room for 1,000 shekels a month in a damaged building with missing walls, but they are struggling to keep up with the rent and may soon lose the room. Dalia’s father died when she was in third grade, leaving her mother to raise the family; her mother is now struggling to cope with the conditions, while Dalia’s brothers have also been affected by the genocide, with one getting married in a tent without a wedding and another suffering a severe hand injury. Their home was completely destroyed, and the family has been displaced five or six times, moving between central Gaza, Deir al-Balah, Rafah, and Khan Younis before taking on debt to rent their current room. Dalia has thyroid disease and severe anemia and has been unable to afford the medication and tests she needs, and doctors have warned that her condition could put her pregnancy at risk; she may also need a thyroid operation costing around $2,000. Her husband was injured during the genocide and still struggles to walk, leaving him unable to work and the family without a stable income. They are now struggling to afford basic needs for the children, including food, milk, and diapers, as well as nutritious food such as eggs and chicken for Ahmed, while medical care remains limited and expensive. Dalia remembers nearly losing her baby during a previous birth in similar conditions and worries about being forced back into a tent if they lose their room, after previously living in tents affected by insects and pollution. The family is seeking support for Dalia’s recovery after giving birth, her ongoing medical treatment and possible thyroid surgery, and their daily needs, including around $100 a week for food, diapers, milk, and treatment.

Ahmed Ibrahim Wafi is a 32-year-old single man now living in a tent with six other family members after losing stable housing. He had previously paid rent but could no longer afford it and moved with his family to a tent in a high-risk area. The household includes his parents and siblings, one of whom is married and living with his wife in the same cramped space, and another who is studying engineering at university but is struggling to pay his fees. His father suffers from severe vision loss, being blind in one eye and only able to see partially with the other, while his mother lives with diabetes and high blood pressure that require ongoing care. Ahmed himself works as a nurse under difficult conditions and has a slipped disc in his lower back at L4 and L5, but continues working while managing his pain with basic medication. Before the genocide, the family lived a stable life in Khan Younis where everyone worked, but their home was bombed about 50 days into the siege, and they narrowly survived. Since then, they have been displaced around 12 or 13 times, moving between areas such as Najjar, Rafah, and back to Khan Younis, often being forced out due to evacuation orders, lack of space, or inability to pay rent even for temporary tents. They have faced repeated instability, including failed attempts to stay with others, tents damaged by harsh weather, and ongoing displacement due to continued military activity. Now living again in a tent near a dangerous zone, Ahmed’s main goal is to secure food, clean water, and safer shelter for his family, possibly renting a place or at least obtaining better tent supplies, while also hoping to support his brother in building a separate space and help another finish his education.

Basel Alothmani is a 36-year-old married man living in a tent with his wife and their four children, including a baby born during the genocide, making a household of six who currently pay 300 shekels a month in rent. Originally from Beit Hanoun in the north, he once had a stable life with a home, a car, and a master’s degree in chemistry, but since the first day of the siege at noon, he and his family have been displaced 14 times and lost everything. His 12-year-old son, the eldest and a grade 6 student who studies online, excels in school and has memorised the Quran, but suffers from severe eczema that requires ongoing treatment costing over 300 dollars a month, leaving him unable to walk properly on the sand surrounding their tent. His wife was also injured while fleeing during displacement and still has shrapnel in her feet, relying on painkillers as it cannot be removed. The family manages food through soup kitchens and is grateful for that support, but Basel’s main concern is securing the medication his son needs and covering the rent so his family can maintain some stability despite their circumstances.

Help Them Survive One

Wafaa Akram, a 25-year-old married woman, is currently living with her husband and their two young children, an infant boy named Hamoud and a girl named Layan, in a makeshift tent in Khan Yunis, Gaza. The family of four has been displaced more than 15 times since the start of the genocide, moving from Beit Hanoun through various areas across Gaza. They pay around $200 for the tent land, sometimes up to $300, but have not been able to pay rent for the past months and risk being evicted. The family relies entirely on scarce aid for food and has no other income or family support left after losing loved ones. All four suffer from malnutrition, and Wafaa has a severe vision impairment that requires glasses, while everyone needs vitamins and proper nutrition. Living conditions in the tent have led to frequent illnesses from viruses, pollution, sand, and mud, with their infant son now struggling to breathe properly. After nearly three years of this hardship, Wafaa is urgently seeking funds for immediate food, water, basic needs, vitamins, and to cover the tent rent so her family can stay sheltered and keep the children safe.
