[African Hub @AfricanHub_]

Former US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle have teamed up with American streamer IShowSpeed to bring Ghana’s independence story to the screen in a documentary called The Eyes of Ghana.

The film follows Chris Hesse, the Ghanaian cameraman who filmed the country’s independence in 1957 and key moments involving its first president, Kwame Nkrumah.

Directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Ben Proudfoot, it draws on footage from more than 1,300 reels that Hesse kept for decades.

The Obamas are executive producers through Higher Ground Productions, and IShowSpeed is also listed as a producer.

Michael Jackson and the Moment the Moonwalk Became Legendary

Some moments on stage last only a few seconds, yet they can change music history forever. Michael Jackson’s moonwalk is one of those unforgettable moments. When he appears to glide backward across the stage while his body remains remarkably controlled, the audience is witnessing more than a dance technique - they are witnessing the creation of an icon.

The moonwalk itself was not entirely invented by Michael Jackson. Similar gliding movements had existed before him. However, Jackson was the artist who brought the technique to a worldwide audience and transformed it into a movement forever associated with his name.

From the beginning of the performance, Jackson demonstrates extraordinary control of his body. His shoulders, arms, posture, and feet move naturally with the rhythm. He does not simply dance to the music; he makes his entire body part of the music.

Then comes the moonwalk.

The magic lies in the illusion. Jackson appears to move forward while actually gliding backward. One foot supports the body while the other smoothly slides behind it, creating the impression that he is floating across the stage.

Technically, the movement requires balance, coordination, rhythm, and precise control. A small mistake can reveal the technique immediately. Yet Jackson performs it so smoothly that the audience stops thinking about how it is done and simply experiences the magic.

That is the power of great performance: when technique becomes effortless, the audience sees only the beauty.

What makes Jackson even more impressive is that the moonwalk is not performed as an isolated trick. He maintains his rhythm, facial expression, posture, and connection with the audience throughout the movement. His upper body remains controlled while his feet create the illusion of motion, making it seem as though he is somehow moving against gravity.

But technique alone cannot create a legend.

Michael Jackson possessed something much harder to teach: stage presence.

He performs with confidence and an extraordinary sense of control. He never appears to struggle with the complexity of the movement. Instead, he makes something difficult look completely natural.

Technique makes people pay attention, but charisma makes them remember.

After Jackson popularized the moonwalk, it became one of the most recognizable dance moves in the world. His hat, white glove, sparkling clothing, signature spins, and moonwalk became essential parts of his unique visual identity.

Many dancers have learned the moonwalk since then, and some can reproduce the technique remarkably well. Yet few can recreate the feeling of watching Michael Jackson perform it. He did not simply perform a dance move; he gave it his personality, musicality, and unmistakable style.

Looking back at the video today, we already know how important this moment would become. But imagine being in the audience without knowing what was about to happen. You see Michael Jackson on stage, and suddenly his feet begin to glide backward. In just a few seconds, surprise turns into excitement, and a simple movement becomes unforgettable.

That is the power of live performance: the artist and audience share a moment that can never be perfectly repeated.

The moonwalk is therefore more than a dance technique. It represents Michael Jackson’s ability to transform something familiar into something magical.

The steps can be learned. The technique can be practiced. The movement can be imitated.

But the moment when Michael Jackson transformed the moonwalk into a global legend can never truly be repeated.

He did not simply walk across the stage. For a few unforgettable seconds, he made the whole world feel as though gravity itself could be defied.
