@Melo_Malebo I know someone that happened to. She was expedited onto public assistance and was promptly treated for Stage 4 cancer. The treatment took a couple of years, but she is now cancer free. The government (taxpayers) paid the bill.
Margaret, you are wrong. My grandparents were in Germany in the 1930s. The first dead man my 6-year old father ever saw was hung and paraded through town for criticizing Hitler. The Lutheran pastor in town was imprisoned and killed by lethal injection for raising concerns about the Nazis. My father said the first question teachers asked in school every morning was, "What did your parents talk about at home yesterday?" Parents were "tagged and disappeared" if their children said they had discussed the war. There was no free speech starting early in thr 1930s and it got worse until it disappeared. Try talking to someone who lived through it, Margaret.
@kitsacat@Hughost_Chavez@cmgriff1999@Joyfulaboutboys@joncoopertweets So do you have anything you believe strongly, regardless of the reason? This is not about religion, it is about freedom of speech. Are you ok if the government forces you to put a sign in your yard saying "I agree with SCOTUS on the web designer case"?
So if she has a bunch of generic cakes for sale just walk in and buy one and walk out with it. But just like the government cannot force you to sa you don't think she's a bigot, neither can it force her to make you a custom piece saying something she doesn't agree with. Free speech either way.
No. She cannot refuse to provide a cake or service simply because she doesn't like the beliefs of those buying. They can buy whatever generic cake or service that everyone else gets. But, when it comes to customi,ING a cake/service to convey a message she doesn't believe the government cannot make her communicate it.
@scraphappy98036 @BustedFlush@Joyfulaboutboys@joncoopertweets To protect yourself, make sure that the contract stipulates you will not accommodate prayer or religious activity at your venue. Consult a lawyer in advance.
@scraphappy98036 @BustedFlush@Joyfulaboutboys@joncoopertweets You can protect yourself up front by letting clients know you will not accommodate prayer, and maybe other religious activity, in your venue.
