NWS Hastings Drought Information Briefing (Oct. 1):
https://t.co/vZf4dyteQg
Given that very dry conditions prevailed for the 3rd straight week, D0 (Abnormally Dry) and D1 (Moderate Drought) continued a gradual expansion on this week's U.S. Drought Monitor. #NEwx#KSwx
Well, it's official: Hastings just finished its DRIEST JUNE-SEP ON RECORD! It was also a Top-5 driest for official NWS observation sites at Kearney and Minden (on graphic) and St. Paul (not shown). At Grand Island, Jun-Sep was "only" 18th-driest, so not quite as severe. #NEwx
Nine-Mile Prairie carries on the legacy of prairie that once blanketed 200 million acres east to Indiana, up to Manitoba and south to Texas. https://t.co/KO08SrbFGc
With frost possible on at least a few mornings during the next week (especially Fri. AM, Oct. 2), here's the link to our annual Fall Frost/Freeze story...PACKED with info about average fall first fall frost/freeze dates, upcoming expectations, etc. #NEwx#KSwx
While most (not all) of our coverage area has been rather dry since May, a few of the outright-driest official NWS sites have been Hastings/Kearney/Minden. In fact, Hastings could have its VERY-DRIEST June-Sept. on record! #NEwx
Drooping #Corn Ears Across #Nebraska | When scouting you may start to see more ears that have prematurely drooped. What is causing this phenomenon in our corn? And what does this mean for yield in those fields affected? #nebext https://t.co/IiNW6VmUbJ
Well....having the driest August in the last 128 years is.....not great. But, only one way to go from here! The only rain we had at the house all month was a tenth that came sideways during the #derecho#iawx
2020 Corn Yield Forecasts - August 25 | Compared with our previous forecasts, there is still a high probability of near-average yields for the majority of the irrigated sites. For rainfed #corn, the scenario is diverse across regions. #nebext#harvest20 https://t.co/jdPhOwXRMZ
Scheduling the Last #Irrigation of the Season | Usually by mid to late August, #corn & #soybeans have progressed enough that we have a good handle on how much water it will take to finish the crop out. #nebext https://t.co/o1cPpr0LxW
Ears hanging down, heat has been too much. 1/3-1/2 starch line has accumulated 85-95% of maximum yield but a black layer is showing meaning we left some yield on the table - even where it was watered properly. These plants are also indicating we might have root development issues
Not a lot of change from last week's drought outlook. A lot of areas across the state still in need for some precipitation. The next couple of days do not look promising for heavy rain either, mainly just a slight chance.
Here is the final Western Bean Cutworm pheromone trap report for south central Nebraska for this season. Definite decline in activity over the last week. @jenreesources@PetersonInsects@BobWrightUNL https://t.co/a6zoK4y1y9
Wettest July on record in Hebron NE! Per our official NWS observer in Hebron, another 2.86" fell there today, bringing the July total up to a whopping 16.16"! July 2020 is now the wettest July on record there out of 128 years, topping the previous record of 14.94" in 1992. #NEwx
