The four Republicans who voted “no” on the motion to include the SAVE America Act in budget reconciliation were:

The motion failed on a 48-50 vote (mostly along party lines, with those four GOP defections). The bill would have required proof of U.S. citizenship for federal voter registration.

Three women silenced in Iran

Two citizens known for their defiant advocacy against injustices perpetrated by the Islamic Republic of Iran were arrested, and another Christian woman was sentenced to nine years in prison.

Bahar Sahraian, a reputed lawyer known for defending Iranian Christians and political prisoners, was arrested recently in the city of Shiraz. 

Mary Mohammadi, a Christian convert who works as a human rights defender and journalist, was also arrested. Since her arrest, the authorities have refused to disclose her whereabouts.

Ghazal Marzban, a Christian convert imprisoned in Evin Prison, was sentenced to nine years and eight months for, according to the judge, ‘propaganda against the regime’ and ‘assembly and collusion against the regime’.

In January, Marzban’s home was invaded and raided. Her Bibles and Christian books were confiscated and she was taken to an undisclosed detention facility before being intensely interrogated. Marzban has been on a hunger strike since May 25 to protest the charges laid against her.

Christians in Iran remain highly vulnerable to arrest and persecution.
