it saddens me how much these ppl are starting to rlly hate sayolara like... sayolara is still my goat. i still think it's one of the best shows i've watched :( i'm js as heartbroken by the ending but it was a beautiful show nonetheless. laramari's love remains as pure and true

This is an interest sequence to analyze. Considering the mermaid kingdom as an allegory of traditional families, the "light" can be seen as girls finding "true love", getting married and bringing new children, so the family stills standing for more generations. (+)

さよならララ観終わった。円満にタイトル回収できて良かった。やれ本当の愛を見つけろだの、愛する者を殺せだのという押し付けられた使命に「うるせー！」って反抗したのはスカッとした。一族の使命から解放されて、どう生きて行くのか自分で決めて自立していく。現代的な価値観の人魚姫だ。

I have no intention of debating whether GBL is romantic love or not.
Yes, Yuri can be romantic or whatnot, but let me make it clear:
For me, they are romantically involved, they are soulmates, family, best friends and more - each other’s world, light, motivation and other half.
