⭕️ Black philosophy professor sues Texas State after firing over off-campus Palestine talk
Idris Robinson, a tenure-track philosophy professor and the only Black philosophy professor at Texas State University, has sued university officials alleging his constitutional rights were violated after the school terminated his contract.
The termination followed a social media campaign by pro-Israel activists over a talk he gave at a North Carolina anarchist book fair in June 2024, the Guardian reported Wednesday. Robinson did not identify himself as affiliated with Texas State during the talk.
Robinson's lawsuit alleges violations of his First and Fourteenth Amendment rights, and he is seeking a temporary restraining order to halt his firing in May.
the collapse of the empire might be painful for grandiose people because the contraction of civil society and economic opportunity (+therein suffering) could be narcissistically injurious, but it could also be gratifying, because it's like, the most epic historical collapse everr
The woman killed by ICE today was a poet. She won the 2020 Academy of American Poets, University & College Poetry Prize at Old Dominion University. This was her bio:
"Renée Macklin is from Colorado Springs, Colorado and is studying Creative Writing at ODU. Her poetry has been published in Metrosphere and Coronado Literary Review, and she currently co-hosts a podcast with her husband, comedian Tim Macklin. When she is not writing, reading, or talking about writing, she has movie marathons and makes messy art with her daughter and two sons."
(People are posting the wrong woman's photo, the red lipstick photo is not her. This is Renee, from her social media accounts.)
"I believe you have a felt experience of this mass problem in your body—a problem that I joke with myself is 'a crisis of authority.' There isn’t really mama anymore. There is urgent care, Zoom therapy, ChatGPT."

BREAKING: Israelis are currently protesting in Tel Aviv, demanding that Netanyahu's government end the war in Gaza and conclude a prisoner exchange deal!
In this essay for @thenation, I try to speak to despair of confronting genocide for a year only to witness its perpetrators expand the warfront with no accountability.

aporetic quandary where it's fun to dunk on people for doing groupthink and taking unthoughtful positions, but then the dunking, even with outsider stance and razor-edge arguments, tends to be also group-thinky and unthoughtful
